Chapter 74 The Visitor
Chapter 74 The Visitor
"Hit!"
"Did you take him down?"
"That strange car is just heavily armored; it might withstand such a huge impact, but the driver certainly couldn't!"
The Gotham police officers must have never heard of the "smoke doesn't hurt" rule, otherwise they wouldn't have stopped the bombing at this critical moment. The next instant, two beams of light tore through the smoke and dust, and the roaring armored monster fiercely charged towards the riot control vehicle.
If the police's armored vehicles are likened to two tough-skinned wild boars, then the Batmobile is like a rampaging Titan Triceratops.
Under its impact, the armored vehicle's proudly robust body collapsed like an accordion being pulled and squeezed by a musician; the only sound this instrument could produce was a high-pitched, hoarse metallic cracking sound.
Amidst shocked gazes, the armored vehicle instantly lost its ability to resist and was overturned on the spot.
It wasn't until the Batmobile roared in that the officer in charge of the operation snapped out of his daze.
"Get out of the way! It's going to crash into us!"
The officer still felt a glimmer of hope, after all, there were two more tire spikes ahead for cover.
But reality soon gave him a harsh slap in the face.
The front bumper of the Batmobile slammed into the ground with a loud crash, sending up a burst of blinding sparks before the nails were crushed into metal slag.
The officers scattered and fled, and after watching helplessly as the Batmobile toppled the flimsy police car like a bowling pin and drove away, a sense of powerlessness arose in everyone's hearts.
Two armored vehicles were destroyed in a single encounter. Is there really any need to pursue this monster?
……
"Chief Gordon, I'm so sorry!"
Muttering to himself, Qin Wei let out a sigh of relief and stuffed the monitoring device back into his backpack.
As the little incident came to an end, he excitedly rubbed his hands together, intending to continue that heart-pounding little flirtation with Selena. But when he looked up, Catwoman was already asleep on the bar counter.
The girl's face still bore the afterglow of intoxication, and she was humming and muttering something unintelligible.
Qin Wei took off his coat and carefully draped it over Selena's shoulders, then turned and asked the bartender for a Long Island Iced Tea.
Putting aside everything else, this body has an amazing alcohol tolerance. The two of them downed seven or eight bottles of red wine in no time, and even Selena, a regular at parties, couldn't handle it. He was only just starting to feel slightly tipsy.
Shaking the long glass and listening to the sound of ice cubes hitting the glass, Qin Wei brought the rim of the glass to his lips.
A finger is pressed against the rim of the cup.
Under Qin Wei's astonished gaze, its owner gently snatched the wine glass away.
"If I were you, I wouldn't get myself too drunk, infecting the lower classes with drugs and numbing the upper classes with alcohol. This is its usual trick to pollute the whole world and drag it into destruction."
The woman's voice was very pleasant, soft and gentle, with a slight nasal tone. Her English was not very fluent, with many pauses between words and a heavy emphasis on retroflex consonants, which may be closely related to her bloodline.
Her skin tone was closer to brown, and her nose was high and straight like the back of a Kurkha scimitar, typical physical features of Middle Eastern people. But it didn't look out of place on her face; instead, it gave her a strong exotic charm.
"Do I know you?" Qin Wei asked.
"We may have met once, but that doesn't stop me from getting to know you." Talia straightened her back and turned her head to look at Qin Wei from a different angle.
But rather than scrutinizing, it was more like a disdainful look.
That look in his eyes could easily be mistaken for the gaze of an arrogant man staring at a trembling beggar in the corner.
Strangely, Qin Wei instinctively resisted the look of disgust, but a strange thought sprouted in his heart: he wanted to push the other person down on the bed and ravage them.
Actually, this is not surprising. In the timeline, Talia and Batman have had a love-hate relationship for many years, and the two even have a child together.
It's perfectly normal for a man chosen to inherit the will of the bat to want to do something after meeting Talia Elg, influenced by the timeline, especially since he had previously gotten on Neferpitou's motorcycle without anyone noticing.
Qin Wei secretly pinched his thigh, finally suppressing the thought.
With his feet off the ground, the virus shut down, and his intelligence regained control of his body. His first thought was of the old man who had appeared at the hospital earlier.
Hmph! Two Middle Easterners appearing in Gotham at the same time? I don't believe you're not connected. Last time we let the Riddler get away, this time we're not letting you go!
Qin Wei pondered for a moment, then calmly picked up on the topic:
Do you know me well? You probably don't even know my name.
"Bruce Wayne, I told you I know you better than you think."
It worked! It really worked! But the woman's answer shocked Qin Wei.
The reason he was shocked rather than surprised was because he was mentally prepared. Dick, Jason, Selena, and other characters who used to revolve around Batman were being brought to his side one by one. Qin Wei wasn't stupid; he could understand the reason with a little thought.
However, there has never been any evidence to prove this.
Talia's statement is undoubtedly the most compelling evidence at present.
"So, when did you see me?" Despite being bombarded with explosive news, Qin Wei was able to maintain a calm demeanor and continue the conversation, which shows that his control over his expressions was truly masterful.
"Bruce, are you testing me? Or... are you not Bruce Wayne at all?"
Talia hadn't forgotten her father's mission: to verify the man's identity. So while Qin Wei tried to get information out of him, she was also secretly observing his expression.
How should Qin Wei respond at this point? Should he insist on his identity? No, no, no, that would be too hasty. The real Bruce Wayne wouldn't be so fixated on his identity.
"I never said I was Bruce. You can actually call me Mr. Matchstick Malone."
Recalling the cartoons he had watched, Qin Wei borrowed the alias that Batman used when he infiltrated a gang.
Talia frowned and remained silent, while the "Bruce Wayne" in front of her smiled nonchalantly.
Although the two looked exactly alike, the carefree and absent-minded Qin Wei and the bitter and vengeful Bruce from five years ago could not be overlapped in her mind at all.
"Never mind, whether you're Bruce or not, I have something else to tell you."
"Please speak."
"Dick Grayson, he is the boy chosen by our League of Assassins, and I will take him away tonight."
"I refuse."
Qin Wei's expression turned cold. Dick was the designated person to steal the vault map Plan B, and he would never allow him to be taken away at this critical juncture.
"Really? But I'm sorry, this is just a notification, and I have no intention of asking for your opinion."
Talia squinted, radiating a dangerous aura under the blue light of the disco ball.
