Chapter 3 The Woman Riding a Donkey
Chapter 3 The Woman Riding a Donkey
"I want to eat you right now!"
Ge Lao Er's son was furious. He rushed forward and started tearing at Ge Maosheng, but everyone quickly stepped in to break up the fight.
Someone with sharp eyes suddenly noticed that Zhou Fengchen had gone out and quickly called out, "Chenwazi is gone."
The old clan chief and his group quickly pulled Da Gang out the door.
Zhou Fengchen returned to the old clan chief's house and idly teased a small mongrel.
The old clan chief asked anxiously, "Chenwa, what are you doing? I don't understand!"
Zhou Fengchen grabbed the dog's leg and flung it several feet away, causing the little mongrel to howl as it crashed. He said, "The matter is very simple and very dramatic. Four people were playing cards. Ge Sanhuai, Ge Maosheng, and Ge Sishui conspired to cheat Ge Lao Er out of his money. Ge Lao Er was resentful after his death and came to take revenge!"
Logically, Ge Sanhuai would die first, followed by Ge Maosheng, and finally Ge Sishui!
As soon as he finished speaking, everyone in the room gasped.
The old clan chief asked doubtfully, "But how did Ge Lao Er die? And what were that woman's plans?"
Everyone in the room asked in unison, "Yes, yes!"
Zhou Fengchen frowned slightly and said, "This is a bit complicated. That woman must be a wandering ghost!"
The old clan chief's face turned pale, and he said, "What... what should we do?"
Zhou Fengchen chuckled and said, "Easy! Tonight I'll ambush them outside Ge Maosheng's house and slap them to death!"
The old clan leader and his group didn't understand and asked in unison, "Who are we blocking?"
Zhou Fengchen blinked: "That woman and Ge Lao Er and the others!"
"Whoa—"
Upon hearing this, everyone felt a chill run down their spines in broad daylight and broke out in a cold sweat.
……
That night, it was dark and windy.
The old clan chief searched out all the money that Ge Sanhuai, Ge Maosheng, and Ge Sishui had swindled from Ge Lao Er and returned it to Da Gang as a way of making amends. After that, he set out a table of food and wine.
Zhou Fengchen first ate and drank heartily, then accepted everything offered, downing bottles of baijiu in one gulp. By around 10 p.m., more than half of the dozen or so people at the table were drunk and passed out.
The remaining four people—the old clan chief, Granny Lan, Da Gang, and another man—did not touch a drop of alcohol. They watched as Zhou Fengchen let a large amount of liquor flow from his ear, then his expression returned to normal, as if nothing had happened, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets.
Zhou Fengchen slowly finished the plate of peanuts before asking, "What time is it?"
The old clan chief glanced at his old pocket watch and exclaimed anxiously, "It's almost eleven o'clock!"
Zhou Fengchen let out a burp. "It's time. Let's go together and see what's going on."
The old clan chief and Granny Lan turned pale with fright. "No! No! We're too old for that."
Da Gang and the man shook their heads, "No, no, no, we're too scared."
Zhou Fengchen said, "We might need some help later. What will you do if you don't go? Don't blame me if something else happens in town."
The four had no choice but to cautiously follow Zhou Fengchen out.
The five of them arrived at the opposite side of Ge Maosheng's house. Zhou Fengchen found a haystack, and the group crawled inside, only sticking half their heads out to stare at Ge Maosheng's door.
A crescent moon hung in the sky, the night was hazy, and every household on the street had closed their doors and turned off their lights, making the whole town pitch black and silent.
The atmosphere was very strange.
The four elders dared not breathe, cautiously looking around. A full hour passed, their eyes aching from staring, but nothing happened.
Just as the old clan chief was about to ask a question, Zhou Fengchen suddenly lowered his voice and said, "Don't make a sound, I'm going to take a dump over there."
With that, he slipped out and headed casually toward Ge Maosheng's house.
Looking around, Grandma Lan exclaimed, "Chenwazi is really brave!"
"Yes." Da Gang nodded as well.
The four of them froze in shock. Zhou Fengchen had mentioned that the place next to them was actually the doorway of Ge Maosheng's house. So, without any hesitation, they squatted down next to the threshold of Ge Maosheng's house.
The old clan chief was furious: "That brat! What kind of nonsense is it to poop in front of someone's gate?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Da Gang suddenly squeezed into the haystack, his body trembling violently, his voice filled with fear: "Don't, don't speak, it's coming, it's coming!"
The other three looked ahead and their hearts pounded, their scalps tingled, and they lay tightly on the ground, their breathing erratic.
A shadow slowly appeared in the dark wilderness of the street. As it drew closer, it was Ge Sanhuai leading a donkey, with Ge Lao Er and a disheveled woman sitting on the back.
The three men, their faces grim, walked silently to Ge Maosheng's house. They stared at the doors and windows, seemingly hesitant to approach, and began to circle around in place.
The four elders were very close to them, and the extreme fear and silent awe they felt were simply indescribable.
The old clan chief, pale-faced, looked towards Ge Maosheng's house and saw Zhou Fengchen was gone. He quickly asked in a very low voice, "Where's Chenwazi?"
Da Gang's heart pounded, and he whispered back, "Gone! Did that bastard abandon us and run away?"
The group exchanged glances, realizing it was indeed a possibility. They cursed inwardly, feeling like they wanted to die.
At this moment, the lifeless Ge Lao Er jumped off the donkey and walked towards Ge Maosheng's house in an odd posture.
The four old Party secretaries immediately recalled the way Ge Sanhuai died, and their hearts jumped into their throats. Ge Maosheng was doomed!
"Da da da..."
Just then, the sound of hooves came from the street corner. The four elders looked up and their faces trembled. They didn't know how to describe their feelings. They saw Zhou Fengchen riding a donkey from somewhere, swaying and running in front of Ge Lao Er, blocking his way. He grinned and showed a set of big white teeth.
Under the cover of night, Ge Lao Er, the pale-faced woman, and Ge San Huai all turned to look at Zhou Feng Chen.
Zhou Fengchen stared at them with a grin.
After a while, Zhou Fengchen stopped laughing and said gruffly, "Get lost!"
Suddenly, Ge Sanhuai let out a strange roar and pounced on Zhou Fengchen. Before Zhou Fengchen could do anything, Ge Sanhuai was sent flying with a scream.
Immediately afterwards, Ge Lao Er staggered towards Zhou Feng Chen. Zhou Feng Chen, with both hands on the donkey's back, launched a flying kick that struck Ge Lao Er squarely on the head. Ge Lao Er screamed and flew five or six meters away, tumbling several times.
At this moment, the pale-faced woman riding on the donkey screamed and stuck out a bright red tongue, aiming straight for Zhou Fengchen's throat.
This was terrifying. The four elders felt their scalps tingle and their breath caught in their throats.
Unexpectedly, Zhou Fengchen just chuckled, grabbed the tongue with one hand, pulled and released it like a rubber band, and snapped it across the woman's face.
"ah--"
The woman screamed and almost fell off the donkey. In a panic, she reached out and summoned Ge Lao Er and Ge San Huai onto the donkey. Then, the donkey was enveloped in a cloud of black mist and sped off towards the edge of town, disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye.
"You guys come out and guard Ge Maosheng's gate, I'm going to chase after them."
Zhou Fengchen gave a brief instruction, then grabbed the donkey's rope and chased after it out of town.
