Chapter 29 I can earn this money too!
“This is the price set by the boss, sir,” Sandy said calmly. “He clearly believes Pepper’s intelligence, ability, and rare personality are worth the price.”
"Boss? Can I talk to the boss?" The wizard still wanted to try.
But Sandy shook her head: "Sorry, the boss isn't here today. He rarely comes to the store."
The wizard shook his head, muttered something like "This is robbery," and turned to leave.
Pepper burst out laughing, then added insult to injury: "If you can't afford it, then get the hell out of here! I'm worth the price!"
Sandy shrugged at Professor Sprout: "Actually, fifty gallons is really too high. I don't think the owner is really keen on selling; he really likes Pepper. He's probably thinking that if he can't sell her, he'll just keep her himself."
Lucas stared at Pepper.
To be honest, he was very tempted and really wanted to buy the raven.
A flying pet can not only deliver items like an owl, but with its intelligence, it can also help itself to search for food growing in dangerous places with just a little learning.
Most importantly, its mutated, exceptionally sensitive sense of taste and smell makes it a great kitchen assistant!
Moreover, Pepper's name, which translates to "pepper," is a perfect match for the kitchen, and it feels like we have a special connection.
However, the asking price is fifty Galleons...
I can only exchange 50 Galleons a year! And I don't know if I'll need to buy more and more things each school year. If that's the case, even if I buy everything secondhand, I'll still spend all 50 Galleons.
If you try to save it up slowly, by the time you've saved fifty gallons, who knows how many years will have passed, and the raven will definitely have been sold to someone else or adopted by the shop owner.
Therefore, making money is of utmost importance; I must find a way to earn Gallon!
But where should we begin...?
Lucas, preoccupied with his own thoughts, followed the professor and Sandy away, when he heard Pepper shout behind him.
"Bye, motherfucker!"
As I emerged from the Fantastic Beasts Shop, the bright sunlight streamed onto the cobblestone streets of Diagon Alley, and the air was filled with noise and energy. The crowds in Diagon Alley had not decreased; in fact, they had increased.
When Lucas realized it was already past 2 p.m., his stomach started growling.
"Let's go get something to eat, child," Professor Sprout said gently.
Lucas felt a pang of embarrassment as he checked the few siscos he had left in his pocket. He had intended to treat the professor to a decent lunch to thank her for her company and help, but now it seemed that the amount of money was definitely not enough to even take her to a restaurant.
Just then, they arrived at the entrance of Florin Fosco's Ice Cream Shop, where several small parasol tables were set up, and many wizards were sitting there enjoying desserts. Lucas noticed a hot dog cart nearby.
He quickly calculated for a moment, then ran over and used his last bit of money to buy himself and the professor an ice cream and a hot dog, respectively.
He handed Professor Sprout a large vanilla ice cream topped with crushed nuts, and a hot dog spread with ketchup, mayonnaise, and mustard.
"I'm sorry, Professor, this is all the money I have. I'll definitely treat you to a big meal when I earn more."
"Oh, don't worry about it, child." Professor Sprout took it with some surprise, her eyes full of tenderness as she looked at Lucas. She then chuckled and accepted the ice cream and hot dog. "Pleasant times always pass too quickly. I didn't even feel hungry. When I was cultivating herbs in the greenhouse, I could easily spend the whole day there."
They found an empty bench, sat down, and began to enjoy the snack.
Looking at the ice cream and hot dog in his hand, Lucas carefully calmed himself down and focused his attention.
What's so special about this magical ice cream and hot dog from the magical world?
While at Hogwarts, perhaps Madam Pomfrey added some kind of nutrient to his potions during his coma. In any case, Lucas wasn't hungry at all after waking up and didn't have the chance to taste the food at Hogwarts. In any case, this ice cream and hot dog was the first time he had ever eaten food from the wizarding world.
Although it's not a formal meal, it's definitely different from Muggle food, so let me savor it...
With anticipation in his eyes, Lucas first took a big bite of the hot dog in his hand, and then scooped out a large spoonful of ice cream.
His expression froze instantly.
"It's delicious, isn't it?" Professor Sprout asked with a smile. "Florin's ice cream is the best in all of Diagon Alley."
Lucas remained silent, staring at the hot dog and ice cream in his hands.
The bread was soft and fluffy, the sausage was juicy, and it tasted great with pickles and mustard. The ice cream was cool and sweet, with a rich but not cloying vanilla flavor, and the nuts added even more flavor.
But...but—
He devoured the hot dog and ice cream in just a few big bites.
I've finished eating, that's true—
It's no different from ice cream and hot dogs in the Muggle world!
He put down the empty box and turned to Professor Sprout in shock: "Professor, there seems to be no magic in these foods?"
Professor Sprout chuckled at his expression: "Of course there's no magic, Lucas. We don't usually cast spells on ice cream and hot dogs."
"Then..." Lucas pressed, "was it because some magical ingredients were used in their raw materials?"
Professor Sprout shook his head in confusion: "Lucas, I think you're mistaken. Not everything in the magical world is magical. These ice creams and hot dogs are made with flour, milk, eggs, pork..."
Lucas clenched his fist: "Then... how is this any different from Muggle food?"
"I'm not so sure about the taste, kid, I haven't had much Muggle ice cream and hot dogs," the professor admitted frankly. "But essentially, they're no different, of course."
There is no difference!
These words struck Lucas like a bolt of lightning.
He turned around sharply and saw that the ice cream shop and hot dog stand were bustling with customers, doing great business, with the jingling of the gallons, cider, and nats they were paying with.
His breathing became rapid.
Although I still didn't get to taste the magical food I'd been looking forward to, I figured out something very important!
Ordinary Muggle food can still sell well in the magical world if it tastes good!
Then——
I don't have Galleons, but I have British pounds! I can use pounds to buy ingredients in the Muggle world, then make food and sell it in the wizarding world to earn Galleons!
These ice creams and hot dogs taste good, but with my cooking skills, I could make snacks of the same caliber with my eyes closed!
