Chapter 1513: Staying with Her Tonight
Chapter 1513: Staying with Her Tonight
But Ethan Barnes had not yet reached Celeste Linden’s room when he was called out, "Ethan."
Ethan stopped in his tracks and turned his head, only to see Carlotta opening her room door, gazing at him tenderly. "Ethan, you’ve finally come back. I had a nightmare earlier, dreaming of those bad things from the past again. I’m so scared, I can’t sleep."
With these words, Ethan couldn’t go into Celeste Linden’s room. He turned and walked over to Carlotta, reaching out to ruffle her long hair, "Carlotta, you had a nightmare again?"
Carlotta nodded, batting her eyes pitifully, and begged Ethan, "Ethan, the past was so terrifying, I can’t forget it. Can you sleep with me tonight?"
Ethan gave his room to Carlotta, while he slept in the study. The two were not yet married. Previously, Carlotta felt Ethan loved her very much, as he showed such respect and tenderness before marriage. But since finding out Celeste Linden was pregnant, she no longer thought so.
She could not sit idly by; she had to take action.
Ethan couldn’t refuse, nodding, "Alright."
They entered the room, and Carlotta sat on the bed. She noticed Ethan did not lie down but sat beside the bed, watching her. "Carlotta, I’ll sit here with you tonight. Don’t worry, no monsters and demons will come near you again. You can sleep peacefully."
Clearly, Carlotta’s intention was not this; so she immediately said, "Ethan, how can you sit by the bed all night? Staying up late is bad for your health. You have to work tomorrow, so please lie down. We can each sleep on half of the bed."
Ethan thought for a moment, "That might not be appropriate; I’ll just sit here."
He remained so gentlemanly, Carlotta genuinely didn’t know what he was thinking.
"Ethan, come on, hurry up, or I’ll get mad," Carlotta feigned anger as she coaxed him.
Ethan relented once more, getting onto the bed and lying at the edge. "Carlotta, I’m here with you now; you can sleep peacefully."
"Mm." Carlotta turned over, nearing Ethan, and snuggled into his arms.
Ethan glanced down at her.
Carlotta extended her small hand to hold his firm waist tightly, her whole body pressed against him.
Ethan said instantly, "Carlotta, what’s going on? It’s not comfortable to sleep like this. Let go and sleep by yourself."
Carlotta had thought it through; she must take their relationship further, and then persuade Ethan to have surgery and get her pregnant. Only having a child could give her a sense of security.
Carlotta’s small hands moved along his firm waist up to caress his handsome face, "Ethan, I think it’s quite comfortable for two people to sleep hugging."
As she spoke, Carlotta’s fingers landed on his thin lips, wanting to kiss them.
Ethan didn’t know whether he was too tired or for some other reason, but he had no such thoughts; he turned away to avoid her, "Carlotta, your body isn’t fully recovered yet; let’s wait a bit longer."
Yet again about her health - was this the excuse he used every time to dodge her?
"Ethan, I’m fully recovered; the doctor said so. We haven’t seen each other for so long, don’t you miss me, Ethan?"
Ethan reached out to push her away, "Carlotta, it’s late now; let’s rest early."
"Hmph." Carlotta immediately got angry, "Ethan, you always have various excuses not to touch me. Do you just not want me? Do you think I’m no longer pure?"
As she spoke, tears welled up in Carlotta’s eyes, and she choked with grievance, "Back then, if it wasn’t to save you, how would I have fallen into the villain’s hands after the fall? I’ve suffered for years, constantly trying to escape, just so I could see you, Ethan."
"But you despise me, think I’m dirty. I get it; you’ve changed your heart. You must have another woman out there; you just don’t like me anymore?"
"If that’s the case, then I don’t need to stay here. Bring in your new one; I’ll leave right now. I’m all alone now; I might as well be dead!"
Carlotta put on an elaborate display of crying, shouting, and threatening suicide.
Ethan was powerless to stop her; he was filled with guilt toward Carlotta, feeling he could never let her down in this lifetime.
He put his arm around Carlotta’s fragrant shoulder, patiently soothing her, "Carlotta, what are you talking about? How could I despise you? I love you dearly, would never hurt you."
"Really?" Carlotta asked through tears.
"Silly, of course it’s true." Ethan wiped her tears.
Carlotta immediately threw herself into his arms, then looked up and kissed his lips.
This time, Ethan didn’t refuse but pressed Carlotta onto the bed, started undoing the buttons on her clothes.
Carlotta happily embraced him, "Ethan, I love you, I truly love you so much. There’s no one in this world who loves you more than I do."
These words were indeed true; yet suddenly Ethan’s mind drifted, as he thought of Celeste Linden. That woman was always cold towards him, not like Carlotta.
Soon, Ethan’s fingers stopped.
"Ethan, what’s wrong?"
Ethan furrowed his brow in frustration at his own body’s reactions, "Carlotta, sorry, I might be too tired lately; I don’t feel any urge."
Carlotta’s face turned pale; his body actually didn’t respond to her?
Yet, Celeste Linden was carrying his child.
He just didn’t want to touch her.
At this point, Ethan lay back down, pinching his fatigued brow. Logically, he was a virile man, storming into Celeste Linden’s room a few nights ago with intentions, but now felt nothing.
For the first time, Ethan felt powerless.
"Carlotta, I’m very tired; let’s sleep." Ethan closed his eyes.
Despite all this, Carlotta dared not push him too hard, something even he couldn’t control. She could only say, "Alright, Ethan, good night."
"Good night."
...
The next day.
Celeste Linden woke up early; she sat in the dining hall having breakfast. Ethan and Carlotta hadn’t come down yet - it was the first time Ethan was so late.
At that moment, the room upstairs opened, and Ethan and Carlotta came out together, Carlotta’s hand wrapped around Ethan’s arm as they descended the stairs.
"Good morning, cousin," Carlotta greeted nonchalantly.
Celeste Linden curled her lips, "Carlotta, Ethan, good morning."
Ethan pulled out a chair for Carlotta, who sat beside him, while Celeste Linden sat across from him. The maid served a hearty breakfast as Carlotta took a bite of bread and smiled, "Oh my, my legs are so sore. Ethan, you were so restless in your sleep last night, you crushed me. I feel like my whole body is falling apart."
