Chapter 22 Detective Du Pang
Chapter 22 Detective Du Pang
Those who transcend others always act in a way that is different from ordinary people.
Jolina feared that Anastasia hadn't sneaked in, but had forced her way in.
However, cutting down everyone you see and preventing anyone from sounding the alarm is also a form of successful infiltration.
"Of course, we walked in openly and honestly!"
Anastasia looked at Jolina and continued, "What else can we do but fight our way out?"
Forcibly storming a police station and killing everyone inside is a horrific act that wouldn't happen in the old city, let alone in a new city with a large police presence.
Doesn't Gloria's police system have any dignity? Doesn't Gloria's administrative division have any dignity?
"Walked in?" Jolina was a little confused. Had no one questioned her along the way?
"Yes, I told them I was looking for someone, and the guards at the gate let me in," Anastasia said casually. "They probably thought I was some detective's mistress."
Anastasia hadn't expected getting into the Upper East Side police station to be so easy; she was prepared to be driven away by the guards.
However, things took an absurd turn. The guards at the gate not only didn't drive her away, but instead let her swagger into the police station.
If one had to find a reason, it might be because Anastasia's beautiful face was too deceptive; she appeared delicate and fragile, with no threat whatsoever.
Jolene Joyce, a detective at the police station, was speechless. How could she have so brazenly infiltrated a police station that should have been heavily guarded?
How can we do good police work while surrounded by these worms!
Anastasia was speechless. She had entered the heavily guarded police station so easily and found Jolina without lifting a finger. Was this really the right thing to do?
The temporary commission was completed so easily, I feel a little uneasy about earning this fee. Should I give Mike Montagu a discount?
"Alright, whatever you did to sneak in, let's hurry up!"
Jolina helplessly stroked her forehead, smoothing her furrowed brows, and her pretty face finally regained some color.
"Listen, Miss Angel," she continued, "I suspect that senior police officials were involved in the attack on Mike. Last night's orders ultimately pointed to two people, two senior detectives."
The structure and personnel hierarchy of the Gloria Police Department are not complicated and are easy to understand.
The police station located in the central courtyard is the headquarters, which oversees the entire police department, while the police stations located in the major urban areas are district police stations, which manage local police affairs.
Under the police stations in major urban areas are local police stations, which are responsible for maintaining order and security within their respective areas. Their main duties include apprehending thieves and maintaining street safety and order.
The ranks of police officers are even simpler, with only two main ranks: Constable and Detective Inspector.
Police officer ranks are divided into probationary police officer, police officer, senior police officer and sergeant. The sergeant usually serves as the manager of a police station.
The detective ranks also start from the probationary level, followed by detective, senior detective, and chief detective. The police chiefs of major districts can only be chief detectives.
The Chief Inspector oversees the entire police station, while Senior Inspectors are responsible for various aspects of the station's operations, such as operations, criminal investigations, and logistics.
Take Jolene Joyce as an example. She is currently a detective in the criminal investigation department. If she wants to become the head of the criminal investigation department, she must be promoted to senior detective.
"If the order came from two senior detectives, I'm afraid your chief detective must at least be aware of it, right?" Anastasia asked.
"I think so. The chief inspector is not an incompetent person," Jolina replied. "One of these inspectors is the head of the operations department, and the other is in charge of public order. If the chief inspector knew nothing about it, he might as well resign."
The Operations Division and the Security Division are the two most important departments under the police station, and both departments have a large number of police officers under their command.
If the chief detective of the Upper District Police Station knew nothing about what happened last night, it means that he has been sidelined by these two detectives and is just a figurehead.
"Where can I find them? Or could you give me a recent photo of them?" Anastasia asked. "When I came, the photos on the bulletin board in the lobby looked a bit old."
"I don't recommend you target these two directly; that would be too obvious," Jolena said. "Besides, if they dared to make a move, they couldn't have been completely unprepared. Of course, I know you don't care about their precautions."
It's so convenient to talk to someone who's quick-witted. Anastasia only asked one question, and Jolina already knew what she was going to do.
"My suggestion is to start with LeBon Dupont," Jolene continued. "Dupont is also a senior detective in the Operations Division, but he's been seeking the position of division chief."
Next, Jolina gave a brief introduction to Le Bon Dupont.
Senior Detective Du Pang is the chief of the Operations Division's trusted lieutenant, having served him faithfully for over ten years.
However, Du Pang, a senior detective, also had dreams. He wanted to become the head of the department, but he never got his wish and could only continue to be the second-in-command in the Operations Department.
"I understand. I'll find some time to meet with Inspector Dupont," Anastasia said.
A strong fortress always begins to crumble from within.
If it weren't for Jolina's help from within, Anastasia wouldn't have been able to find a way to cause trouble even if she wanted to.
"Dupont's photo is on the bulletin board in the front hall," Jolina said. "Although the photo is a bit old, once you've seen it, even just once, you'll definitely be able to recognize Dupont in a crowd."
It sounds like Inspector Le Bon Dupont has a very distinctive appearance.
Anastasia recalled that there were indeed several very recognizable photos on the police station bulletin board, including one of Jolina.
Jolene Joyce's photos are truly striking; she stands out like a crane among chickens amidst a sea of drab male photographs. Coupled with her bright and beautiful appearance, she is like a ray of sunshine.
"Alright, I've said what I needed to say," Jolina continued. "Whatever you do next, please make sure Mike's safety is your top priority."
"Miss Joyce, I feel you are questioning my professional ethics," Anastasia said.
"I'm not questioning your professional ethics, it's just that you lack trust in strangers," Jolina said frankly. "The situation is complex and dangerous, so I have to give you one more piece of advice."
These words were quite unpleasant, just like Anastasia's usual strange and eccentric manner.
However, these words did not anger Anastasia. It is normal and natural to lack trust in strangers.
Although Jolina heard Anastasia's name from the priest many times, the two had only met twice, and their relationship was no different from that of strangers.
In this situation where they are almost complete strangers, if Jolina had complete faith in Anastasia, Anastasia would find it strange and would want to ask Jolina why she trusts her.
"I'm leaving now. I hope to see you again, Miss Joyce."
As she spoke, Anastasia walked towards the outside of the archives room, and before leaving, she tapped her forehead with two fingers and gave a salute with a touch of roguishness.
"What a wonderful wish, Miss Angel. I hope to see you again outside the Old Town."
Jolina tapped her forehead with her index and middle fingers together, and Jolin returned the gesture with a two-finger salute.
With a slam of the door shut, the archives returned to silence, the low chimes of the clock continuing to echo in the room.
Jolina lowered her head again and continued reading the old case files recorded in tiny handwriting. She knew that the quagmire of the Upper East Side Police Department was about to be stirred up.
The stunningly beautiful detective knew exactly what she was doing. She wasn't a fool; she knew that something big was about to happen, something that would shock the entire police station.
Anastasia walked briskly through the police station corridor after leaving the archives. Even when she encountered people, she did not avoid them but walked past them with composure, sometimes even nodding or smiling at them.
Perhaps it was precisely because of her open and aboveboard demeanor that those who encountered her in the corridor did not harbor much suspicion. At most, they would glance at her a few more times and mutter a few words, as if she, the intruder, were a member of the police station.
And so Anastasia entered the lobby without hindrance and stopped in front of the bulletin board covered with photos.
Le Bon Dupont was indeed as distinctive as Jolina had said, making him unforgettable.
How should one describe Inspector Du Pang?
Anastasia thought for a moment and came up with a perfect description: "It's like a pig standing up."
Although the photos on the bulletin board were all half-body portraits, Du Pang's obesity was impossible to hide. He was so fat that he had no neck, and his eyes were just slits.
Anastasia couldn't help but suspect that Inspector Dupont might also be a transcendent being, and that his mutated power was likely gluttony, otherwise it would be hard to explain how he had become so fat.
To put it another way, Inspector Dupont weighs at least four or five times as much as Anastasia; his weight shouldn't even be measured in kilograms.
"The world is so big and full of wonders, I've learned a lot today."
Anastasia sighed as she walked out of the square police station building, strolling out calmly without the slightest hint of guilt.
The situation in the courtyard was exactly the same as in the corridor. The police officers still did not approach Anastasia to question her identity, and even the guards at the gate did not ask her a single question.
And so, Anastasia walked out of the police station unharmed, disappearing into the neon-lit night and into the vast sea of people.
At that moment, Le Bon Dupont, who was as fat as a pig standing up, was feasting at a restaurant near the police station.
Sitting opposite Dupont was a blonde, blue-eyed woman who looked extremely disgusted with him and made no attempt to hide her dislike.
