Chapter 309: A Choice That Tears Apart Fate
Chapter 309: A Choice That Tears Apart Fate
The figure reached out and pointed at Ares's chest.
"Kill me."
In the real world, Selena and Wagner saw a completely different scene—Ares stood motionless at the door, his eyes unfocused, as if he had been pulled into some unknown dimension by some invisible force.
"What's wrong with him?" Wagner gripped his battle axe, clearly prepared to smash him.
“His consciousness is trapped.” Selena gritted her teeth, a hint of anxiety flashing in her eyes. “We must bring him back as soon as possible.”
But just as she was about to take action, the sides of the passage began to collapse. The stone walls cracked, revealing eerie black fissures, as if the entire space was being devoured by some deeper force.
Wagner cursed, "Damn, this is really the end for us."
Selena quickly adjusted her energy field, attempting to stabilize the surrounding environment. At the same time, her gaze fell on Ares, and her voice was decisive: "Ares! Whatever you see, come back here immediately!"
Ares heard Selena's voice in the darkness.
He looked at the projection of "himself," his gaze gradually hardening.
"Do not."
Ares slowly tightened his grip on the rune sword.
"I won't kill you."
"Because you are not my destiny."
In an instant, the entire dark world trembled violently, and the projected figure began to disintegrate. A flicker of emotion, never before seen, flashed in its eyes, as if it... had experienced some kind of genuine emotion for the first time.
"You... finally... chose a different path..."
As the figure completely vanished, Ares abruptly opened his eyes, his consciousness returning to reality.
The runes on the door instantly went out, the entire space trembled violently, and the core of the Time Tombstone began to collapse. Selena and Wagner immediately rushed forward to protect Ares, who simply slowly raised his head to look at the now-broken door.
"Did we succeed?" Wagner asked, panting.
Ares shook his head slightly, his gaze complex: "No, we just... opened the real door."
Selena's expression changed slightly: "You mean?"
Ares said softly, "The cycle of fate has been broken, but a new fate has begun."
He gazed into the depths of the Zero Point Starfield, where even deeper secrets awaited them.
Time: Unknown
Coordinates: Zero Point Star Region
Status: Abnormal fluctuations in the laws of the universe...
Danger Level: ██████
The darkness has not yet dissipated.
Ares, Selena, and Wagner stood at the deepest part of the tombstone of time, gazing at the cracked door. It stood there silently, a faint light slowly seeping from the crack, as if something was calling to them.
But that kind of "light" is not warm.
It's more like a detached observation, a gaze from beyond the universe, as if confirming that they really made the choice to change their destiny.
Selena broke the silence first, her tone more serious than ever: "Ares... are you sure? Behind this door could very well be the true starting point of the cosmic cycle."
Ares nodded slowly, his eyes deep: "Yes. If fate has been broken, we must know—who originally set it up."
Wagner snorted and twirled his battle axe between his fingers: "Fine, whatever's behind the door, I'll chop down what I need to chop down, and I'll blow up what I can blow up. Ares, you take care of the philosophical questions."
Selena rolled her eyes: "...I'm glad your combat thinking is still so direct."
They exchanged a glance, both understanding that once they stepped through that door, there would be no turning back.
Ares took a deep breath, reached out, and pushed open the door leading to the unknown.
They thought they would enter a closed room or a sealed ruin.
But what awaited them was... an eternal white space.
There is no sky, no earth, and no flow of time; the entire space is like an empty canvas. The only things that exist are countless black fragments floating in the air, rotating slowly, like shattered stars or remnants of some broken reality.
“This place doesn’t seem like part of the universe,” Wagner said in a low voice, gripping his battle axe and scanning his surroundings warily. “It’s more like… a deleted part of the universe.”
Selena frowned and tried to scan the surrounding energy fluctuations with her device, but the data on the screen was chaotic and even began to reset automatically, as if it had been forcibly overwritten.
“…What the hell?” she whispered, her voice filled with shock. “The flow of time here is constantly modifying itself.”
Ares's gaze lingered on the black fragments, his expression shifting slightly: "These... might be forgotten fragments of the universe."
Selena looked up abruptly: "You mean, this is... a space outside of fate?"
Ares did not answer. He slowly walked towards one of the floating black fragments and reached out a finger to touch it—
In an instant, the whole world was torn apart.
His consciousness seemed to be instantly projected into a certain point in time, and the world before him underwent a dramatic transformation.
—A burning battlefield.
—Countless crashed starships floated in the shattered star field.
—Planets collapsed into cosmic dust, light was swallowed up, and darkness descended.
In the heart of these ruins, he saw himself.
—A different Ares.
He stood alone at the edge of the universe, clad in black armor and wielding a longsword engulfed in dark flames. Behind him lay countless fallen lives, while before him stood a shadow larger than the stars, an entity radiating an irresistible aura of destruction.
"You made your choice."
The black version of itself slowly raised its head, looking at Ares at this moment, its voice as deep as the clash of cold metal.
"You chose to end everything."
Ares' heart pounded, and he finally realized that this was not a hallucination.
This is the future that "he" once experienced.
In the real world, Selena and Wagner saw Ares' body trembling slightly, his eyes unfocused, as if he had been pulled into a time rift by some force.
“Ares!” Selena reached out and grabbed his wrist, trying to pull him back to his senses.
Wagner cursed loudly: "Damn the supernatural! We can't keep being fooled by these damned cosmic mysteries!"
Just then, the entire white space suddenly began to collapse, the black fragments spun wildly, and the gravity of the entire area suddenly became unbalanced, as if an invisible storm was about to descend.
Seeing that Ares was still not fully awake, Selena gritted her teeth and made a decision.
"Wagner, hold him off for me!" She suddenly pulled out an energy pulse needle and plunged it directly into Ares's arm!
The electric current instantly struck Ares' nerves, and he jerked his eyes open, his consciousness forcibly pulled back to reality.
His gaze cleared instantly, and he gripped the rune sword tightly. The blade sliced through the air, and a beam of light cleaved through the surrounding black fragments.
