Chapter 263: The Final Awakening
Chapter 263: The Final Awakening
Enveloped by the crystal's power, the guardians found themselves in a completely different space. There were no clear boundaries, no specific directions; it was as if an infinitely extending void. A deep, oppressive light permeated the surroundings, and countless luminous runes floated in the space, like fragments of cosmic language, radiating an irresistible pressure.
"Where is this place?" Kane looked around, dual blades in hand, warily observing the strange phenomena around him. "Have we been transported to another dimension by its power?"
"This is the realm of crystals." The observer's voice came from the star map, tinged with tension. "It has brought you into its core world, the place where its consciousness extends, and the true origin of the rift."
“It seems it doesn’t intend for us to repair it easily.” The Arbiter gripped his twin blades tightly, his eyes gleaming with a calm light. “Whatever it wants to test us with, we must give it our all.”
Lysa said in a deep voice, "It said that repairing the cracks would come at a huge cost. Now that we have chosen this path, there is no turning back."
Suddenly, a deep and resounding voice echoed from the void, the will of the crystal directly transmitted into their minds: "Guardians, you are trying to repair the rift and prevent the collapse of the universe, but do you truly understand what this means?"
Lessa raised his head, his gaze fixed firmly ahead. "We know this path is fraught with danger, but whatever the cost, we must restore balance to the universe."
“Very well.” The crystal’s voice grew even deeper. “Then, accept my trial. If you pass the trial, you will gain the power to reshape the rift, but the price of failure will be your entire existence.”
The guardians were suddenly scattered into different spaces, each surrounded by their own personal aura of light and shadow. These auras were not simply illusions, but rather their past experiences, including memories they had deliberately forgotten or chosen to escape.
Lysa found herself standing amidst ruins, surrounded by the battlefields where she had once fought. Every inch of the land was stained with blood, and the air was thick with despair. Familiar faces floated before her eyes; her fallen comrades were silently watching her.
“Leza…” one of them spoke, it was her closest companion, Evan. His voice was low, tinged with an unconcealable sorrow, “You promised to protect us, but why are we lying here while you are still alive?”
“I…” Lysa was speechless for a moment, a deep sense of self-reproach and pain welling up inside her. Her hands gripped the spear tightly, her body trembling slightly. “I tried my best… but I couldn’t save everyone…”
“You’re always running away from your failures.” Another voice came from behind her; it was her commander. “Do you think that repairing the rift will make up for your mistakes? You’re just trying to comfort yourself.”
"I am not!" Lysa suddenly shouted, the tip of his spear flashing with a blazing light. "I am not here to make up for the past, I am here to protect the future! If you were still here, I believe you would choose the same path as me!"
As Lessa shouted, the familiar faces gradually faded away, and the surrounding ruins turned into countless specks of light that rose into the void. The crystal's voice rang out again: "The first stage of the trial is to confront your past. Lessa, you have passed this test, but you must understand that the wounds of the past cannot be healed. The only thing you can do is move forward."
Meanwhile, the Arbiter found himself in another, separate space. In this space, he saw a future scene: the universe was swallowed by rifts, the order of all dimensions had completely collapsed, and he stood in the center of the ruins, holding twin blades eroded by the rifts.
"This is one of the possibilities for the future." The crystal's voice echoed in his ears, "The power of the rift cannot be completely eradicated; it will continue to cycle until it eventually devours everything. And you will be the witness to all of this."
The adjudicator's gaze was cold and stern. "You're trying to shake my conviction? It won't work."
"Do you really believe that repairing the crack is the right choice?" The crystal's voice was full of doubt. "Perhaps the true balance comes from accepting the existence of the crack, rather than trying to erase it."
"Accept the rift?" The Arbiter sneered. "That's the choice of a coward. The existence of the rift threatens every life in the universe, and I will not accept its fate of devouring everything."
"So, are you willing to sacrifice everything for this?" the crystal's voice asked in a low voice. "The price of repairing the rift is that you give up everything you have now, including your memories, your power, and even your very existence."
The Arbiter gripped his double blades and answered without hesitation, "If this can restore balance to the universe, then I am willing."
The crystal was silent for a moment, then said, "Very good. You have passed the second stage of the trial. But remember, the real price awaits you at the end."
After everyone had completed their trials, they gathered again before the core of the rift. The crystal's light shone even brighter, and its voice carried a hint of solemnity: "You have passed the trials, but this is only the beginning. The power to repair the rift does not reside with me, but within yourselves."
"What do you mean?" Kane asked, frowning. "We've passed your trial, so why can't we repair the rift?"
“Because the rift is not the real enemy.” The crystal’s voice was deep and complex. “It is part of the laws of the universe, a means for the universe to adjust itself. You are trying to repair it, but you have ignored the significance of its existence.”
A hint of doubt flashed in Lysa's eyes. "What is its significance?"
"The significance of the rift is to break the old rules and create the possibility for a new order," the crystal said slowly. "If you repair it, the price you must pay is not only your own existence, but also accepting a brand new universe, a future that you cannot fully control."
“A future beyond our control…” the adjudicator repeated softly, his gaze deepening. “This means that our efforts may lead to even greater unknowns.”
“Yes,” the crystal replied, “but the unknown is not a mistake. It is the way the universe evolves.”
Lysa took a deep breath, her gaze unwavering. "No matter what the future holds, we must repair the rift. Because this is the meaning of our existence, to protect those lives that have not yet been swallowed by the rift."
The crystal's light began to dim, and the runes in the space gradually disappeared: "In that case, I will grant you the power to repair the rift, but remember, your choices will determine the future of the entire universe."
