Chapter 44 Looking at each other in bewilderment
Chapter 44 Looking at each other in bewilderment
The moonlight cast long shadows across the garden wall. The circus crew finally arrived at their target building.
The magician tugged at his white gloves, making final preparations.
"Are you ready?" the magician asked his subordinate.
"no problem"
"Can."
"This operation needs to be swift; it must be completed within five minutes."
"According to my divination, the witch should still be sleeping, so we need to hurry..."
The magician began assigning tasks.
The four of them split into two groups: the magician, along with the clown who had been severely injured by the witch, was responsible for the frontal assault; the fortune teller and another clown were stationed at the back door as support.
If the two attackers are thwarted, or if the witch manages to escape, the two supporters must immediately step in to intercept her.
"If that witch manages to escape, do not blindly intercept her; prioritize your own lives." Before leaving, the magician, still somewhat worried, gave his subordinates this instruction.
But the clown, standing to the side, interpreted these words quite differently.
Boss, you can't say that! You're making it sound like we're bound to fail.
The two team members who were waiting in place nodded to indicate that they understood.
The magician turned to the slightly flustered clown beside him and spoke.
"With me here, what are you panicking for!" The magician said in a deep voice, patting the other person on the shoulder.
"Operation begins."
He then led the clown to a lower section of the wall that was easy to climb, stretched out his hands, grabbed the gaps and protrusions, and climbed to the top of the wall in just a few moves.
Thanks to the Joker's excellent body control, the two easily scaled the wall, making almost no sound.
After passing through the garden and arriving at the side of the house, the two touched the south wall, where a water pipe was dripping rusty water.
The magician was clearly superior in climbing the wall, displaying exceptional skill in all his movements.
He grabbed the water pipe with both hands, and the moment his shoe tips hooked into the brick seam, his spine arched like a feline's, and he easily flipped up.
Thanks to his unique abilities, the Joker could do this effortlessly. But compared to the magician, his movements were much cruder.
"His legs are stiffer than a puppet's." The magician cursed under his breath as he watched the clown's performance.
The two arrived at the second-floor corridor, where the floor gleamed in the moonlight.
The magician activated his spiritual vision, surveying his surroundings. After confirming there were no hidden dangers, he pulled a Joker card from his pocket and pressed it against the corner of the wall. A faint blue mist seeped from the edge of the card, gradually condensing into a blurry human shape.
A tall, slender figure appeared there.
This was a smokescreen he used to confuse the witch. If the witch discovered the two of them, this illusion could have some effect.
Then he took a silver-gray talisman from his pocket and placed it next to the cards. If the illusion was attacked, this talisman would be activated immediately.
Being struck by the power of this talisman is no less than being hit at close range by a demon hunter bullet.
Of course, if possible, he still hoped that the operation would go smoothly and that his little trap would never be used.
He then gently patted the clown on the shoulder, signaling him to watch his position and not to accidentally step on it.
He was always a little uneasy about this overly naive subordinate.
A moment later, the two arrived at the bedroom on the second floor. A sweet, cloying fragrance seeped from under the bedroom door.
The clown pulled a black and red talisman from his pocket. This talisman, with its explosive effect, could quickly cause massive damage. He held it in his hand, ready to chant a spell at any moment.
The magician pulled out a silver-plated revolver, and the moment he pushed the hammer away with his thumb, the sulfurous smell of the six demon-hunting bullets pierced his nostrils.
The clown watched as his boss held up three fingers, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed.
From the magician's clairvoyant perspective, there was indeed a figure lying in the room.
After confirming the target was there, the magician gave the clown a wink and made a throwing motion.
After opening the door, he activated the talisman and threw it in... The clown understood and nodded.
"Three" The magician holds the gun in both hands, ready to shoot.
"Two" The clown's tongue pressed against the roof of his mouth, and the explosive spell swirled between his teeth.
"one"
The door was kicked open.
Just as they had agreed beforehand, the moment the door opened, the clown quickly chanted the incantation to activate the talisman, and after it heated up slightly, he swiftly threw it into the room.
At the same moment, the magician aimed at the bed and quickly pulled the trigger.
"Bang...bang...bang!"
He emptied the magazine in less than two seconds.
"Boom!" An explosion followed, and dust instantly filled the surroundings.
"He should be dead by now." Looking at the mess in front of him, the clown turned to the magician beside him and asked.
"Something's not right!" The magician sensed something was amiss.
A moment later, the smoke dissipated, and there was no witch on the collapsed bed, only a broken mirror.
Dangerous!
……
……
"This is... the Explosion Talisman has been activated." Hearing the explosion coming from afar, the two who were on standby quickly noticed the abnormality.
"The boss and his men should have succeeded by now."
However, after waiting for a while, the two still couldn't find their teammates.
The little girl left behind realized something was wrong.
"Oh no, something's happened to the boss and the others."
……
On the night watch team's side.
After a nearly twenty-minute carriage ride, they successfully arrived at the gate of their target house.
"Don't be nervous, everything will be alright. I've encountered enemies far more dangerous than this before," said Old Neil, the oldest of the night watchmen, reassuring everyone.
"Something seems off..." Klein, who was standing nearby, seemed to have noticed something.
"That's firelight, and what's that...?" He pointed to the second floor of the building in front of him.
Upon hearing Klein's words, everyone turned their gaze towards him.
They saw a figure fall from the second floor.
"Ugh, that damned witch..."
"Hmph, not that impressive!"
The clown, who had fallen from the second floor, looked somewhat disheveled and injured, but his expression was one of extreme excitement.
That witch is already at her last gasp. She stepped into the boss's trap and got hit so many times by me and the boss. She definitely won't last much longer. I have to hurry and help the boss...
He gritted his teeth and struggled to his feet. Before he could even stand up straight, he looked up and saw a fully armed Night Watch squad standing to the side.
"this……"
The clown's expression froze instantly.
In that instant, he felt his "Clown" potion completely digested.
"Boss, hang in there, we're coming." Hearing his teammates' voices behind him, countless beads of cold sweat dripped down the Joker's forehead.
"Are you alright? We..." The two who came to help saw the injured clown and looked worried, but when they walked over and saw a group of Night Watchers behind their teammate, they both froze on the spot.
"this……"
The two groups of people just stared at each other in bewilderment.
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
