Chapter 21 Appraisal and Clever Trick Box
Chapter 21 Appraisal and Clever Trick Box
"This is?"
Lorne felt as if a strange filter had been applied to his right eye, making the scenery he saw completely different from his other eye, and he was gripped by a strange sense of dizziness.
As he looked at the table, a passage of text suddenly came to mind.
Material: pine
Value: Extremely low
Year: 15
Extraordinary Abilities: None
"These are treasure-hunting glasses!"
"The kind of cheat code that's most useful in novels!" Lorne's eyes widened, and he instantly snapped back to reality.
It's not a method of identification that's too mystical and not intuitive enough, like divination.
This is a genuine authentication.
Treasure hunting, jade gambling, finding bargains...
A string of words flooded Lorne's mind. He could almost see his bright future.
"No, I can't get excited. I'm a ruthless transmigrator."
That's what he said, but the smile on his lips never faded.
There was no way around it; ever since he transmigrated, one unlucky thing after another had happened. He was already lucky if he didn't jump for joy when he finally encountered such a good thing.
"Has this hit rock bottom and bounced back?"
"By the way, can I wear it on my left eye?" Lorne took the glasses off his right eye and put them on his left eye.
"Huh? I can't put it on." The monocle slipped off automatically as soon as it got close to his left eye. If Lorne hadn't reacted quickly, it would have fallen to the ground.
"Does it only work when worn on the right eye?"
Would the appraisal be useful for that wooden box...? Suppressing his excitement, Lorne recalled the wooden box that had conjured up the note out of thin air.
Give it a try.
Material: Unknown
Value: Extremely high
Year: Unknown
Exceptional capability: Providing users with steps to solve the problems they raise.
Usage restrictions: Twice a day
Note: This item will only show you the steps to solve the problem, but will not give you the answer directly. Furthermore, the steps are incomplete; only one step will be provided at a time.
"This is truly an extraordinary item, and so powerful!"
What shocked him even more was the ability to identify monocles.
Even the precautions are included; this appraisal ability is truly extraordinary… Lorne exclaimed, sensing the information before him.
"However, the year and material are unknown, so I'm still a bit concerned!"
"So it seems that the glasses' ability to authenticate isn't all-encompassing after all." Gradually calming down from his excitement, Lorne began to think about some more practical issues.
"And what are the criteria for judging the value of these glasses?" These two questions popped into his mind.
Speaking of which, if this box and the monocle are extraordinary items, then what about that playing card...? Lorne remembered the 3 of Diamonds stuck in the crack of the stone door.

"It seems that as long as it's infused with spirituality, it can automatically identify everything in its field of vision." Lorne took off his monocle and rubbed his slightly sore eyes.
He then took out the 3 of diamonds playing card from the bag he had been carrying during the day.
"Appraisal." Lorne put his monocle back on, infusing it with spirituality.
Unknown playing card square 3
Material: Unknown
Year: Unknown
Extraordinary ability: Unknown
Everything is unknown!
He was startled by the result; even the wooden box that had been packed in layers hadn't been like this.
"But no matter how you look at it, it's just an ordinary playing card!"
Lorne carefully picked up the playing card and examined it closely by the dim light of the gas lamp.
But just by looking at it, he couldn't tell what was special about the playing card; at most, it just looked a bit old and exquisite.
"Could it be that the power of this card has been sealed?" Lorne had a guess.
"It's no coincidence that this card was in that cave, and that cave is full of traces of time travelers."
"Perhaps, contrary to initial expectations, this card itself might belong to the time traveler."
"But why get it stuck in the door crack?"
"It can't be some kind of trick where you just slip a piece of paper under the door and it falls down to let people know someone's been there, can it?"
"How could that be? Who would be so bored..."
Wait! If it's a time traveler, maybe it really will... A cold sweat trickled down Lorne's forehead.
"If that wasn't an unguarded treasure, but just a storage room."
"Then wouldn't I be a thief!"
"What if that time traveler discovers something is missing and comes after us..."
Lorne abruptly stopped his delusions and re-examined the current situation.
"That cave is at least several hundred years old. Even if it really was created by a time traveler, it's probably long gone by now!"
That being said, he then thought about how high-sequence extraordinary beings seem to have extremely long lifespans. What if that transmigrator was a high-sequence one...?
While pondering how to appeal to the other party's sense of kinship, Lorne thought of something even more important.
"The state of that underground cave clearly indicates that it has been abandoned for a long time."
"If the transmigrator didn't die, the most likely explanation is that he's no longer in this world; perhaps he's already gone home."
This idea represents the best-case scenario at present, as it eliminates the worry of retaliation from the previous transmigrators and provides hope of returning home.
"The Famicom was born in the 90s. Even if that time traveler traveled from the time when the Famicom was just emerging, it would be at most 30 years before I traveled to 2021."
"But that cave is at least several hundred years old," Lorne said, resting his chin on his hand as he continued to think.
"In other words, the timeline that time travelers travel to is not fixed. If we include Emperor Roselle, this conclusion should be correct."
"The time flow rate in this world is at least several tens of times different from that in the original world."
"So if I spend decades finding a way back, it would probably only take a year or two at most in my original world."
"In a year or two, there shouldn't be any major regrets, right?" Lorne felt a little melancholy as he thought of his parents and the elderly in his family.
He got up and paced back and forth in the room. Although he had only been in this world for a short time, a strong sense of homesickness had already overwhelmed him.
"Forget it, why think so much? Time to sleep!"
After a long day of work, and having exhausted a great deal of spiritual energy to test the effect of the monocle, Lorne was already very tired.
However, because of the matter of the transmigrator, the fatigue was temporarily suppressed, but now that I'm relaxing, sleepiness is coming right away.
Soon, even breathing could be heard from the bed.
……
The next day, Lorne still did a divination to confirm that the playing card would not pose any danger before he gradually felt at ease.
However, there was one thing that bothered him: the physical reaction he experienced when he encountered that strange policeman that day.
In particular, he felt that something in his body was just one step away from changing.
"What exactly is that feeling?" Lorne was getting a little annoyed; he didn't want any problems with his body.
With that in mind, Lorne took out the wooden box, which he named the "Clever Plan Box".
The inspiration came from a prop in an animated film he watched as a child.
The box's ability to provide solutions to problems also surprisingly suits the name.
"How can I resolve this abnormal condition in my body?" Lorne asked.
A moment later, a note appeared out of nowhere:
"Using my own unique methods to perform divination for others."
