Chapter 197 Smuggling (Part 2)
Wei Hongsi did not intend to deliberately pique Zheng Han and Yu Xiufeng's interest.
The two teachers have been working long hours and their complexions are already quite poor (literally). If they don't rest soon, it could seriously harm their health. But keeping them on edge would likely prevent them from sleeping well, so I'm just revealing a little bit as a placebo.
After leaving the supercomputing center, Zheng Han and Yu Xiufeng went to the accommodations provided by the school to rest, while Wei Hongsi headed towards the cafeteria.
One great thing about being a project manager is the freedom of my work schedule; I no longer have to clock in and out every day. Of course, the performance evaluation now focuses on the project team's results, which brings more pressure. However, so far, Wei Hongsi feels the CDD project team has performed quite well.
The school was already on summer vacation, but the cafeterias weren't all closed; some remained open throughout the holidays.
University is a magical place; there are people sleeping, studying, playing games, and eating at any time, even during holidays. Moreover, there are significantly more people on campus during summer vacation than during winter vacation, so the campus is not particularly deserted.
While walking, Wei Hongsi called Feng Weixu and invited him to have breakfast at the cafeteria.
Feng Weixu asked in surprise, "Why are you at school so early in the morning?"
Wei Hongsi said, "There's something I'd like to talk to you about."
Feng Weixu said, "Jiang Haiyang and I are in the second canteen. We just sat down. What do you want to eat? I'll order for you."
Wei Hongsi said, "Do as you say, I'll be there right away."
After hanging up the phone, Wei Hongsi quickened his pace. When he arrived at the second canteen, he immediately saw Feng Weixu and Jiang Haiyang, and went over to sit down.
Feng Weixu bought him an egg pancake and a bowl of millet porridge. Wei Hongsi thanked him, picked up the pancake, took a bite, and felt that it tasted even better than the ones sold outside.
Wei Hongsi ate a couple of bites to fill his stomach and then asked, "Why isn't Dai Mengqi here?"
Feng Weixu said, "She went home these past two days."
Wei Hongsi then asked, "Why didn't you go with them?"
"Why should I go?" Feng Weixu said, a coy look on her face.
Wei Hongsi looked Feng Weixu over carefully and laughed, "Not bad, you've finally broken through."
Jiang Haiyang was drinking porridge when he heard this and almost spat it out. He tried to hold it in, but then he choked and turned his head to the side, coughing.
Feng Weixu glared at Jiang Haiyang: "What are you getting so worked up about?"
Jiang Haiyang patted his chest, caught his breath, and laughed, "Xiao Si was driving too fast, I couldn't stop him."
Wei Hongsi glanced at Jiang Haiyang with some disdain and said, "Only an experienced driver would make suggestive remarks in every situation."
Jiang Haiyang waved his hand and said with a smile, "Alright, let's not talk about this anymore. I'm telling you, Xiao Feng, you should actually thank Xiao Si and Shen Qing."
Feng Weixu laughed and said, "I'm just treating him to breakfast."
Jiang Haiyang said, "Damn, you've only been here a short while and you've already become so stingy! You're really something!"
After chatting and laughing for a while, Feng Weixu asked Wei Hongsi, "What brings you here today?"
Wei Hongsi said, "Let's talk about it in the lab later; you'll definitely be interested."
Feng Weixu then stopped asking.
After finishing their meal, the three strolled towards the college's laboratory building. Once inside the joint laboratory's workspace, Wei Hongsi explained what he wanted to do to them.
The SR project team has basically completed its information gathering on Mu Jie, but the cracking of the "circuit breaker mechanism" has only just begun.
Although the solution used on Mu Jie cannot be replicated for others, it is still very valuable for reference. Discovering the underlying principle of the "circuit breaker mechanism" is a great gain.
This successful case demonstrates that the "circuit breaker mechanism" is ineffective against uncontrolled consciousness. Mu Jie's "id" consciousness acted as a backdoor, through which important information was leaked.
Generally speaking, firewalls are primarily for external defense. However, Wei Hongsi believes that the subconscious firewall in the brains of members of the Light Guiding Society should be the opposite, preventing the leakage of internal information.
Of course, this still needs to be verified to confirm, but Wei Hongsi felt that his judgment should be correct, otherwise the members of the Light Guide Association would not be able to carry out the subsequent memory infusion.
The solution is simple: take Chen Xuemin as an example. Since there is no second consciousness in her brain, we can add one for her.
A simpler solution is to implant a memory into her brain, similar to the method used by the Light Guide Society. With further improvements to GH0.1, an effect similar to a "pod" could be achieved.
However, this approach is not foolproof. The memory encoding implanted through this method is relatively simple, and the included fragments of consciousness have no anchor points. After implantation, they will soon be strongly controlled by Chen Xuemin's "master personality".
In fact, the reason why Mu Jie's "id" consciousness can persist is because it has a conscious anchor point. His regret for his parents' accidental death and his obsession with wanting to undo it but being powerless to do so are the conscious anchor points of his "id".
Therefore, for Wei Hongsi's plan to succeed, he must have a sufficient understanding of Chen Xuemin's childhood, and the implanted fragments of consciousness must be able to find a supporting anchor point in her own memory. This anchor point must have a certain strength, at least enough to support her for a period of time, after which the plan used on Mu Jie can be replicated.
An ideal anchor point could be Chen Xuemin's longing for her parents, her obsession with returning home, and so on. However, Guo Weiran said that finding Chen Xuemin's parents would be very difficult, and without accurate information, it would be hard to effectively evoke her longing for them.
Furthermore, Chen Xuemin was less than five years old when she was abducted, much younger than Mu Jie when she lost her parents. Although she was very intelligent as a child, the memories she retained about her parents were certainly not as vivid as Mu Jie's.
Taking these factors into account, Wei Hongsi devised a Plan B.
This inspiration was sparked by Feng Weixu's obsession with gaming helmets.
He planned to use a brain-to-brain connection to directly smuggle a second consciousness into Chen Xuemin's brain.
This consciousness doesn't need an anchor point because the owner of the consciousness is an online "player," and this is a PVP contest.
Implementing this plan would undoubtedly be a huge challenge. However, Wei Hongsi believed that Senior Brother Feng would like and be happy to accept this challenge.
He didn't talk about the specific details of the case, only about the goal he wanted to achieve.
Sure enough, Feng Weixu immediately became interested after listening and asked, "Do you have a framework for the plan? Please explain it in detail."
Wei Hongsi shrugged and said, "I only had this idea this morning, so what framework is there?"
Feng Weixu said, "No? That's alright, we'll just build one on the spot."
