Chapter 29 Charms and Gems
Chapter 29 Charms and Gems
"Hmm, that's interesting. The Infinity Stones can be used like this."
Looking at the documents the ninja had brought him, Shendu had assumed they were all classified information from within S.H.I.E.L.D., or, as Glenn had suggested, evidence that Natasha harbored disloyalty towards S.H.I.E.L.D.
But the information displayed in Natasha's notebook in front of her was completely different; it recorded another power in this world: the Infinity Stones.
The Holy Lord kept flipping through Natasha's journal.
The first day after the Battle of New York.
That day, Fury took me to a secluded room inside S.H.I.E.L.D., surrounded by no agents, but by a defense system made entirely of smart technology.
Fury suddenly struck the back of my neck, and I passed out. When I woke up, I found myself tied to a chair with a golden gem in front of me.
I recognize it; it's the jewel in Loki's scepter.
I angrily asked Fury what he wanted to do, but Fury simply told me that he meant no harm, that the gem was unstable right now, and that I was the best vessel.
He had the gemstone implanted into my body.
Perhaps, as Fury said, I didn't feel any discomfort.
……
Fourteen days after the Battle of New York.
Today was interesting. I received a magical stone from an agent that grants me a special ability: invisibility.
I kept testing this ability in the room until one day I accidentally discovered that it could resonate with the Mind Stone.
Using this stone, I can briefly use the Mind Stone's power, allowing me to become invisible in front of one person while remaining unchanged in front of others.
Ironically, those agents thought my infiltration skills had improved even further.
I think the gap between me and Tony and the others has narrowed, or I can use this ability to make them fear me.
……
The twentieth day after the Battle of New York.
Damn it, Fury took the Mind Stone.
However, I have this magical stone, and retrieving the Mind Stone will be a piece of cake for me, so I'll just leave this old thing for a while.
When I retrieve the gem, I'll frame Hydra.
If we leave Hydra's mark at the scene, Fury, with his dimwit, definitely won't notice anything unusual.
……
When the Holy Lord turned to the back, the rest of the stories were all about traitors.
Shendu calculated the time; the Mind Stone was still with S.H.I.E.L.D.
Since the Infinity Stones can enhance the power of the talismans, his next target is clear.
Collect all the charms and obtain other Infinity Gems.
"Valon".
Just as the Holy Lord was planning how to obtain other powers, Steve's voice came from outside the door.
It's like wishful thinking has come true. Given Valmont's status as a crucial partner for S.H.I.E.L.D., it's indeed inappropriate for him to inquire about the location of the Mind Stone, let alone obtain it.
However, Steve was different. As the spiritual leader and Captain America, it was easy for him to get information about the Mind Stone from Fury.
He truly deserves to be called the kindest guy in the Marvel universe.
The Holy Lord suppressed the smile on his lips and made Natasha's notebook invisible to ensure that no trace was left.
The door opened, and Steve saw a face that had just woken up.
"Were you sleeping just now?" Steve asked, looking at the bright sun in the sky.
The Holy Lord yawned and stretched: "This world is in a different time zone than my original world. I've mostly settled things down. I can't get involved in the mole's affair. I'm too idle, so I'm getting sleepy."
Steve gave an understanding look, paused, and then said, "I just went to find Tony, but the guards there said Tony isn't available right now."
"So, you came to find me?" The Holy Lord's words revealed his dissatisfaction at being disturbed from his sleep.
Steve scratched his head awkwardly. He had heard in mythology that dragons were rather sleepy creatures, but he hadn't expected that dragons from other worlds in the East were like that too.
The Holy Lord invited Steve in: "Speak up, you didn't come to me for no reason."
Steve entered the Holy Lord's room, which contained only a bed, a table, and a chair.
Looking at the shabby surroundings, Steve casually found a chair and sat down: "I'll get straight to the point."
Steve's expression turned serious: "Vallon, I am now formally inviting you to join S.H.I.E.L.D. as Captain America."
Shendu narrowed his eyes. Joining S.H.I.E.L.D. and gaining an official identity would make it easier to get close to the Mind Stone, but he couldn't agree immediately.
Steve looked at Valon's wary expression, which was within his expectations: "I know you're a little distrustful of us right now because of the mole within S.H.I.E.L.D., but you also know that joining S.H.I.E.L.D. will make you safer."
"Hmm? Why do you say that?" the Holy Lord asked seriously.
Steve sighed: "Actually, I can't guarantee that S.H.I.E.L.D. will be safer either. I'm currently overwhelmed with the mole issue but haven't been able to get any leads."
"It's just that once you join S.H.I.E.L.D., I can protect you better."
"Oh?" The Holy Lord raised an eyebrow.
Steve was stunned for a moment upon hearing Valon's provocation; he had just sensed a peculiar feeling emanating from Valon.
It's the disdain of someone in a higher position mocking someone in a lower position.
But when he looked at Valmont, all he could see was the man's distrust of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Was it just my imagination? Steve wondered.
He was pulled back to his senses by the Holy Lord's words before he could think straight: "Don't you find the matter of the mole a bit strange?"
These words jolted Steve awake, and he also sensed something was amiss. If he was an inside man, how could there be no clues within S.H.I.E.L.D.?
The Holy Lord continued, "If the Chitauri planted a mole within S.H.I.E.L.D. just to sow discord between me and S.H.I.E.L.D., that's ridiculous."
Steve seemed to have grasped something: "You mean?"
The Holy Lord prompted, "I feel that sowing discord is just a pretext; they probably have another purpose, a much larger one."
"For example, if there is some information within S.H.I.E.L.D. that is fatal to them, or if there are items they desperately want to obtain."
Steve lowered his head, lost in thought, and the Holy Lord did not interrupt him.
A short while later, Steve suddenly looked up and said, "There's nothing that threatens them, but there's one thing they might desperately want."
"Huh? There really is such a thing?" the Holy Lord said, feigning shock.
Steve explained, "You don't know this, but there were two Infinity Stones during the Battle of New York. One was the Space Stone, which Loki used to open a portal, and the other was the Mind Stone from Loki's scepter. They've been kept by S.H.I.E.L.D. ever since!"
Steve's eyes lit up as he spoke: "No wonder there were no clues! We were going in the wrong direction!"
"Valon, you're a genius!"
Steve got up to leave, but turned back at the door and said, "There's no one in the agency I can trust anymore. I'll need Valmont's help to find the mole."
"No problem, I'm ready at any time," the Holy Lord said with a smile.
