Chapter 107 Odin's Guard
Chapter 107 Odin's Guard
Unlike the celebrating nobles and the carefree Saul, Wanda stood in a corner, watching everything around her warily. She neither drank nor ate; she simply stood there motionless like a statue.
The Holy Lord sat on a side seat in the main hall with a cup of wine in front of him, but he did not drink it. His gaze swept over everyone in the hall, observing their actions and eyes.
Loki sat opposite the Holy Lord, toying with the dagger in his hand, a disturbing smile on his face. His gaze occasionally drifted to Odin on the throne, a barely perceptible glint of cold light flashing in his eyes.
"Are you ready?" God's voice echoed in Loki's mind.
Loki's fingers trembled slightly, then he continued toying with the dagger. "Ready," Loki answered in his mind, "but I need you to create an opportunity for me."
Loki's gaze fell on Odin on the throne, and he continued to think to himself, "I need an opportunity to be alone with Odin. He's very vigilant right now, and he won't let his guard down even with Thor and Frigga present, but if I'm alone..."
"Can you do it?" the Holy Lord asked.
Loki's lips curled into a slight smile: "I am the god of trickery; deception is my instinct."
After a moment of silence, the Holy Lord replied, "I will let Wanda and Thor leave. You'll have to figure out what to do with Frigga yourself."
"no problem."
After their internal dialogue ended, Loki got up and walked out of the hall.
Shendu watched Loki's figure disappear through the doorway, then turned to Wanda: "Wanda."
Wanda immediately went to her master's side: "Master?"
"Go tell Saul that Jane's body is acting strangely and he needs to take her to the medical wing for a check-up immediately."
Wanda nodded and turned to walk towards Thor, while Shendu returned to his seat and took a small sip of the wine in front of him.
Saul hurriedly took Jane to the medical wing for testing, but after a full examination, the doctors there concluded that Jane was currently in good health, only too weak.
Thor frowned. He realized he had been tricked, but why would the Holy Lord trick him into coming to the Medical Wing?
Thor turned to leave to demand an explanation from Saint, but Wanda was already standing at the door.
"Wanda?" Thor asked, looking at Wanda. "Why did Shendu lie to me?"
Wanda didn't answer, she just looked at him calmly.
Thor gripped Mjolnir and looked at Wanda. The power of the Mind Stone was still at work. His instincts told him he should trust Shendu, but he also felt that something was happening that Shendu didn't want him involved.
Saul's voice turned serious: "Wanda, answer me, where is the Holy Lord? What is he doing?"
After a moment of silence, Wanda said, "My master doesn't want you to go back now."
Why?
There are some things you don't need to know.
Saul stared into Wanda's eyes, but all he could see in them was her unwavering devotion and loyalty to God. Saul knew he couldn't persuade Wanda or force his way through. He didn't know if he could beat Wanda, but he didn't want to be an enemy of God.
"Okay." Thor put down Mjolnir. "I'll wait here."
Wanda nodded without saying anything.
The celebrations continue in the Golden Palace.
Odin sat on his throne, looking at the celebrating crowd below with little joy in his eyes. His one eye occasionally swept across the side seats, where the Holy Lord was still calmly watching everything with a wine cup in his hand.
Frigga walked up to Odin and whispered, "You don't seem too happy."
Odin shook his head: "It's not that I'm unhappy, it's just... there are just some things that make me uneasy."
"What is it?"
"Lord," Odin said in a low voice, "He is too powerful, too mysterious, too uncontrollable. He can control Malekith, and he can control anyone. If one day he wants to deal with Asgard..."
Frigga grasped Odin's hand: "He won't, Thor believes in him, I believe in Thor."
"Thor believes him." A hint of worry flashed in Odin's eyes. "Is the child's trust genuine?"
Frigga fell silent. She understood Odin's meaning: if the Holy Lord could control Malekith, then he could also control Thor. Perhaps Thor's trust in the Holy Lord was not Thor's own will, but rather something the Holy Lord had forcibly imposed upon him.
"You need to talk to the Holy Lord," Frigga said. "Speak to him alone."
Odin nodded: "I will."
Just then, Loki walked up to Odin and knelt on one knee: "Father, I have something important to report to you."
Odin looked at Loki, a hint of wariness in his eyes: "What is it?"
Loki raised his head and said sincerely, "There are some things about the Holy Lord that I can only tell you."
Odin was silent for a moment, then nodded: "Come with me."
Loki followed behind Odin, a barely perceptible smile playing on his lips, as they headed towards a small room on the side of the main hall.
In the side hall, Odin sat in a chair, staring at Loki: "Speak."
Loki took a deep breath in front of Odin and said, "Father, the Holy Lord is in danger."
Odin raised an eyebrow slightly: "That's not what you said before."
"I didn't see him clearly before," Loki said with a hint of sincerity in his voice. "But now I see him. He can control Malekith and anyone else. I think he did something to Thor that made Thor have an absolute trust in him. It wasn't Thor's own will, but something that God forced upon him."
Odin tapped his fingers lightly on the Spear of Eternity: "What evidence do you have?"
Loki shook his head: "I have no evidence, but you should know very well that Thor's trust in the Holy Lord is abnormal. You've known Thor for so many years, have you ever seen him have such strong trust in anyone? Not even you, his father, he doesn't trust you this much."
Odin fell silent; Loki was telling the truth, and he couldn't refute it.
"What do you want me to do?" Odin asked.
Loki stepped forward and lowered his voice, "I want you to protect yourself. The power of the Holy Lord is too great. If he wants to attack you, you may not be able to fight back."
A cold glint flashed in Odin's single eye: "Are you questioning my power?"
Loki lowered his head respectfully and said, "It's not a question, it's a concern. You are the King of Asgard, the ruler of the Nine Realms. If anything happens to you, the entire universe will fall into chaos."
Odin remained silent for a long time, then asked, "What is your purpose?"
Loki raised his head and said reverently, "Let me protect you."
"you?"
"I know you don't trust me." Loki's voice was tinged with bitterness. "I know I've done many wrong things before, betrayed you, betrayed Thor, betrayed Asgard, but I am your son, no matter what, I am still your son, and I don't want to lose you."
Odin stared into Loki's eyes, and in those green eyes he could see only piety.
"Alright." Odin nodded. "From today onwards, you will stay by my side."
