Chapter 68 Captain, Call Out My Name!
Chapter 68 Captain, Call Out My Name!
Late at night, reporters surrounded the area at the foot of Stark Tower.
The renovation team rushed here overnight and began repairing the mess on the roof.
During the construction work, Tony instructed Jarvis to prepare for the data transfer.
"Mark, we need to find another place now," he said.
Mark grabbed a reporter disguised as a worker and tossed him to Happy.
"Where to?" he asked Tony.
Tony thought for a moment, then asked Jarvis to call a private jet.
"I have a sea-view villa in Sandy Bay, Clifton, which is very quiet," he said.
Mark's lips twitched. "The way you were thinking just now, was it because there are too many villas and you couldn't remember them all?"
Tony looked surprised. "How did you know?"
mark:"......"
"Okay! I'll do as you say."
He seemed to have thought of something and added, "Judging from your expression just now, you seemed to know who has been plotting against you all along."
"Just a guess."
Tony's expression darkened slightly as he thought of that person.
"I hope it's not him."
Mark shrugged. "Whether it's him or not, you'll find out if you talk to him."
"That's exactly what I meant."
Tony pondered for a moment, then said, "I'll arrange to meet him in three days."
"Three days?"
Mark frowned. "Three days is enough time. Your armor still isn't ready. Is it really necessary to take such a risk?"
Tony glanced around at the mess and shook his head.
"If I've prepared everything, then he won't tell me the truth."
"Okay, I understand what you mean."
-
SHIELD.
"Nick, something's happened to Stark again."
Natasha walked into the office, her face grave, and handed her handheld computer to Nick Fury.
Nick Fury didn't see the news above.
He sat in the chair, looking out at the neon-lit nightscape through the floor-to-ceiling windows, his hands clasped together, lost in thought.
After a long while, he turned around and looked at Natasha.
"Our troubles may be coming again."
"Of course," Natasha said. "The Green Goblin and the Lizardmen attacked Stark again this time. As long as they keep showing up, the Osborn Tower incident will never be over."
"That's not all."
Nick Fury rubbed his temples. "You know, both Norman and Kurt were taken away from us by others, but the consequence of that is that we have to take the blame for them."
Natasha nodded, clearly knowing the inside story.
"So Nick, we have to stand with Stark."
She analyzed carefully: "Although you are the commander here, your authority has been downgraded one after another. Those guys above you just treat you as a pawn that can be discarded at any time."
But Tony Stark is different. His father is Howard, and he has a strong military background, which is why Stark Industries was able to surpass Osborn Corporation to become the leader in the defense industry.
Now those guys are planning to abandon him for some reason, and that's our chance.
Teaming up with Stark to resolve the remaining troubles caused by Green Goblin and the Lizardmen in one fell swoop and initiating a major overhaul is necessary.
Nick Fury frowned, pondering the pros and cons.
"Even with Stark, it's still not enough. We don't have absolute power; we can't beat those guys." He still didn't have high hopes for this.
Before Natasha could say anything more, Steve violently kicked open the office door.
"Fuck you, you little darling! Not only are you black-hearted, but you're also such a coward!"
Steve walked up to Nick Fury and punched a hole in the desk.
"Bang!"
Wood chips flew everywhere, and Nick Fury was startled by Steve's appearance.
"Steve Rogers, what are you doing?" he demanded, his face dark.
Steve glared at the other man. "What am I going to do? I'll make you snap out of it!"
He pointed to the news on the computer screen, "Look at this, this is the mess you've made."
"I didn't do it," Nick Fury retorted instinctively.
Steve scoffed, "Spider-Man dealt with those monsters a long time ago. It was you who, because of orders from above, put them back in their breeding ground."
As he spoke, he looked at the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo behind Nick Fury, his eyes filled with a sense of melancholy.
"The Strategic Scientific Corps back then wasn't like S.H.I.E.L.D. today. Dr. Erkins was able to withstand everyone's pressure and choose the frail me to become a super soldier. He believed that I wouldn't let him down and would become an excellent super soldier to save more comrades."
He looked at Nick Fury, "And you, you poor cotton picker, you pretended to have no choice but to agree to their conditions for the sake of your ridiculous power."
You've become the commander of S.H.I.E.L.D. again, but what happened to the monsters you let go? They're still wreaking havoc on peace.
That peace was something we risked our lives to achieve, did you understand?
Steve glared at Nick Fury. "I slept for seventy years and thought the world had become the way I imagined it to be."
But after that experience, I suddenly realized that the world was still the same as before.
During this time, I visited Hell's Kitchen, the backstreets of New York, and the so-called slums.
I also learned about those countries still embroiled in war, and I found out who caused their disasters.
I never imagined that my hard work back then would lead to this result.
They could have provided a better life for everyone, but they just wouldn't let go of any piece of meat in their hands.
Like vampires, greed and evil are their defining characteristics.
You knew perfectly well that this was the case, and you knew what would happen if you handed over those two guys' technology to them, but you still did it anyway.
So Nick Fury, this is the first time I've called you by your name.
Steve stared intently at Nick Fury.
Tell me, what is your decision?
"I........"
Nick Fury opened his mouth, but couldn't utter a single word.
Many years ago, he, like Steve now, believed that the world shouldn't be like this.
He wanted to change all of this, so he embarked on this path and met that cosmic-level friend.
But after becoming the commander of S.H.I.E.L.D., he seemed to gradually integrate into their group.
He learned to weigh the pros and cons, and he also learned to deal with those guys.
Sacrificing a little is worthwhile as long as you can get the resources you want and achieve your goals.
His desire for control is growing stronger, but he is also becoming more and more willing to compromise.
Now, Steve's words seemed to rekindle the dying embers deep within him.
Who are those guys?
They're just a bunch of scheming guys who only know how to hide behind the scenes.
In this world, power is the most terrifying thing.
But Nick Fury knew that there were things far more terrifying in the world than power.
At that moment, Nick Fury rediscovered the passion he once had.
"Steve, I've made up my mind, we're going to blow them up!"
Nick Fury suddenly stood up. "Actually, I had planned this a long time ago, but I never had the chance."
Now, I'm ready.
Looking at Nick Fury's determined gaze, Steve smiled.
"Great, I'm starting to acknowledge you, but don't get arrogant, it's just a little bit."
Natasha breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this.
"I have a friend coming over later, and he'll agree to let us go together."
