Chapter 10 Afu establishes his authority, and the white deer is saved.
Lin Yi was stunned.
Was this little deer manifested by the system from Douluo Continent?
A hundred-year-old soul beast?
The two guys in camouflage were clearly after the fawn.
"Viper, something's off about this dog." The burly man stared at Afu, his tone tinged with apprehension. "How can a mongrel like this have such a frightening presence?"
The lean man—codenamed "Viper"—spit out: "It's just a dog. How fierce can it be compared to the weapons we have? This white deer was specifically requested by the employer; it's worth five million alive. If we can't handle it, this trip will have been a waste."
The two men pulled out stun guns from their waists and moved closer to Afu.
Afu did not retreat.
It let out a lower, more dangerous roar from its throat, lowered its body slightly, and braced its hind legs.
Just as Lin Yi was about to make a move, a figure suddenly flipped down from the courtyard wall next to him and landed next to Afu.
He was a boy of about seventeen or eighteen, with dark skin and a lean but well-defined physique. He was wearing a faded T-shirt and carrying a wooden stick, standing in front of Afu and Xiaolu.
Ding Xiaopeng.
Lin Yi just accepted this apprentice a couple of days ago.
Although he was called an apprentice, he was actually just a school dropout from the village. His parents worked in other places, and he lived with his grandmother. Lin Yi saw that he was physically fit and honest, so he privately taught him some basic fighting techniques over the past few days.
I never expected this kid to be so bold, daring to attack two burly men with stun guns.
"Who are you? This is private property, leave now!" Ding Xiaopeng raised a wooden stick, trying to make his voice sound intimidating.
The viper laughed: "Where did this brat come from? Get out of my way and don't get in my way."
He raised his hand and swung it at Ding Xiaopeng.
Ding Xiaopeng dodged to the side, swinging the wooden stick in his hand and striking Viper's wrist. The blow was forceful; Viper cried out in pain, and the stun gun flew out of Viper's hand.
"You little brat's got some skills!" Viper swung his hand, his eyes darkening. "Night Owl, all of you, attack!"
The two pounced on Ding Xiaopeng at the same time.
Ding Xiaopeng barely managed to block the viper, but Night Owl kicked him in the waist from the side, knocking him to the ground.
Just then, a yellow shadow flashed by.
Ah Fu.
The big yellow dog was incredibly fast, rushing towards Night Owl like a yellow lightning bolt and slamming into his leg. Night Owl felt as if he had been hit by a calf, losing his balance and falling heavily to the ground.
Afu didn't stop; he turned and pounced on the viper again, biting down on his trouser leg and yanking it hard. The viper screamed and fell face-first into the mud.
The two scrambled to their feet, staring in horror at the incredibly ferocious yellow dog.
"Let's go!" the viper said through gritted teeth.
The two scrambled over the low wall in the backyard and disappeared into the woods.
Ding Xiaopeng got up from the ground, dusted himself off, and looked at Afu with eyes full of admiration.
"Ah Fu, you're too amazing!"
Afu held his head high, with an expression that said, "It's nothing."
Just then, a grayish-brown squirrel scurried down from the jujube tree in the yard, jumped onto Afu's back, and squeaked.
Lin Yi recognized the squirrel.
It's the same one that's been hanging around the guesthouse a lot lately; he occasionally throws it some peanuts. He didn't expect this little guy to be hiding in the tree just now—looks like he's planning to help?
Afu called out to the little squirrel, as if to say, "Well done."
The little white deer timidly emerged from the corner and nuzzled against Afu's neck. Afu lowered its head and licked its face, as if to comfort it.
Lin Yi emerged from the shadows.
Upon seeing him, Ding Xiaopeng immediately stood up straight: "Brother Lin! Two people tried to steal the animals from the back mountain, but Afu chased them away!"
"I saw it." Lin Yi nodded. "You did a great job."
He looked in the direction the two poachers had fled, his eyes turning cold.
These two men were not ordinary poachers. They knew the value of the white deer, and it was "specifically requested by the employer." What does this mean? It means that someone knew a rare animal had appeared in Qing Shi Village and was willing to pay a high price to buy it.
This crystal musk deer was only created by the system last night, and someone came to steal it today.
The news spread way too fast.
Lin Yi squatted down and carefully examined the fawn.
Its entire body was snow-white, and its eyes were light gold, like two pieces of warm amber. It looked at Lin Yi timidly, as if it could sense a certain reassuring aura emanating from him—probably because of the system.
"Ding! Host contact detected with Crystal Musk Deer (Juvenile Hundred-Year Soul Beast). This Soul Beast has developed a natural affinity for the host. The host may choose to tame it as a guardian Soul Beast. After taming, the Soul Beast Training function will be unlocked."
Guardian Soul Beast?
Lin Yi reached out and gently placed his hand on the deer's head.
The deer didn't dodge; instead, it nuzzled against his palm.
"Alright, you can come with me then," Lin Yi said.
The fawn let out a soft cry, as if in response.
The system notification sounded again:
"Ding! Congratulations, host, you have successfully tamed your guardian soul beast, the Crystal Musk Deer (juvenile stage, 100 years old). The soul beast training function has been unlocked. You can increase the age and strength of your guardian soul beast by feeding it immortal herbs, spirit fruits, and other items. Current soul beast intimacy level: 60 (close)."
"Crystal Musk Deer: A hundred-year-old soul beast, gentle in nature, skilled in support and healing. Its musk has the effects of purifying the air, nourishing soul power, and healing minor injuries. Upon reaching adulthood, it can evolve into a thousand-year-old soul beast, the Crystal Sacred Deer."
Lin Yi checked the Soul Beast Training Interface, which displayed the little deer's various attributes and a "Friendship" progress bar. The higher the friendship level, the stronger the Soul Beast's abilities and the faster its evolution speed.
"Let's go back to the guesthouse first." Lin Yi patted the deer on the back.
The deer followed obediently beside him, with Afu and the little squirrel guarding him on either side, and Ding Xiaopeng following behind. A man, a dog, a deer, and a squirrel—the scene was indescribably peculiar.
Back at the guesthouse, Xia Tian was doing a live stream in the lobby.
Her eyes lit up instantly when she saw Lin Yi walk in with a snow-white fawn.
"Oh my god! Boss, what kind of deer is this? It's so beautiful!"
The viewers in the live stream went crazy.
"Holy crap, is that Bai Lu?"
"I've never even seen a pure white deer in a zoo!"
"Are those deer antlers transparent? Or are they fake?"
"It's definitely fake. What deer antlers are transparent?"
Xia Tian walked closer and examined it carefully, then said earnestly to the camera, "It's real. The deer's fur, eyes, and antlers are all real. And its antlers do have a translucent texture, like crystal. I don't know what breed it is, but I can confirm that this is not an ordinary white deer."
Lin Yi casually made up an explanation: "This is a species unique to the back mountain of our Qing Shi Village, called Crystal Deer. It's extremely rare, and you can't usually see it. I don't know what happened today, but it ran off to the old house and was found and brought back by Afu."
He didn't mention the two poachers, not wanting to cause unnecessary panic.
