"Thank you, Monica."
"You're welcome." Monica didn't leave immediately, but stood there with her hands behind her back, twisting the hem of her clothes, looking like she wanted to say something but couldn't.
"Is there anything else?" Chu Hang asked.
“Hmm…” Monika hesitated for a moment, then finally mustered up the courage to ask, “That night… that bad guy, did you knock him out?”
Her eyes sparkled, filled with longing for the unknown.
Looking into her inquisitive eyes, Chu Hang felt a stirring in his heart. He recalled that in the future, this little girl would also gain powerful energy manipulation abilities through an accident and become the superhero Spectrum. Perhaps, planting a seed in her heart now wouldn't be a bad thing.
Instead of answering directly, he held up one finger.
A crystal-clear droplet of water slowly and defied the laws of physics as it floated up from the glass of lemonade in front of him, hovering in mid-air.
Monica's mouth slowly opened into an "O" shape.
Then, the water droplet began to transform in mid-air. First, it became a tiny butterfly with fluttering wings, which then circled in front of Monica. Next, it transformed into a miniature cartoon spaceship, exactly like the one on her pajamas. Finally, it became a small stick figure waving at her.
"Wow—" Monica couldn't hold back any longer and exclaimed in amazement. This was a hundred times more amazing than any magic trick she had ever seen!
“This isn’t mind control,” Chu Hang said gently. “It’s… a deeper understanding of the world. When you can understand the ‘code’ that makes up this world, you can make small modifications to it, like this.”
As he spoke, he flicked his finger, and the stick figure made of water floated lightly to Monica's nose, then with a "snap," it turned back into a drop of water, leaving her with a slightly cool sensation.
Monica subconsciously touched her nose, then giggled, her eyes brimming with admiration as she looked at Chu Hang.
Just then, Carol and Maria came out of the house. Carol looked at Chu Hang interacting with Monica, and her eyes softened considerably. These past few days, although Chu Hang hadn't said much, he was like a pillar of strength; his mere presence brought a sense of peace.
"Looks like you're popular with kids," Carroll said, walking up to him.
"Perhaps." Chu Hang smiled noncommittally.
Suddenly, his smile faltered slightly, his eyes sharpened instantly, and he looked up at the sky.
Before Carol and Maria could react, they saw Chu Hang's figure leave a faint afterimage in place, and the next second, he had already appeared on the roof.
"What's wrong?" Carol immediately became alert, and the energy within her body began to surge.
"We have a guest." Chu Hang's voice came from the rooftop, carrying a hint of icy coldness. "And, he's here for you."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a tiny, almost invisible black dot in the azure sky began to grow at an alarming rate.
Immediately afterwards, a green energy beam, like a death ray, tore through the sky and crashed straight down towards Maria's house!
Chapter 71 Yon Rogge
Green light tore through the sky.
It wasn't a beam of light; it was more like a red-hot iron rod dropped directly from the track, whistling sharply and igniting the air in its path. Before it even hit the ground, a scorching wave of heat swept down, instantly withering and curling the grass on the lawn, releasing a burnt smell.
Maria held Monica tightly, her mind blank, even a scream caught in her throat. She was just an ordinary mother, and with death pressing down so concretely, there was nothing she could do but close her eyes and hold her daughter tightly in her arms.
Carol reacted a level faster. Every cell in her body screamed; the combat instincts implanted by the Kree made her instinctively rush forward. Golden cosmic energy seeped from beneath her skin, and she bent her knees slightly, preparing to use her body to smash into the pillar of death.
But she knew it was too late.
That thing was too fast, too close.
Just then, Chu Hang, who was standing on the roof, moved.
He simply raised his right hand, extending his five fingers towards the green light descending from the sky.
There was no charging up, no slogans, not even a hint of energy. His movements were as calm as snapping his fingers, or simply catching a tennis ball thrown by a friend.
Then he shook it gently.
A muffled thud, extremely suppressed, seemed to come from another dimension.
A strange scene happened.
The destructive beam of light, powerful enough to vaporize the house and the surrounding land within a hundred meters, stopped less than three meters from the roof tiles.
It just stopped in mid-air.
It didn't collide with anything, didn't create a ripple. It was like a movie scene paused on time; the destructive energy at the front was still churning wildly, but it just couldn't move forward an inch.
Carol, who was about to leap onto the lawn, froze in place, her mouth slightly agape. She could feel how terrifying the energy contained in that beam of light was—pure, unadulterated destructive energy, the output of the Kree Empire's most standard naval cannons. Even if she activated her Binary form, taking a direct hit would leave her severely injured.
But it just stopped there.
Then, something even more incredible happened.
The still beam of light began to distort.
It was no longer a straight beam of light, but rather like a venomous snake being forcibly folded, coiled, and squeezed from head to tail by an invisible hand. The destructive energy clashed wildly within the extremely small space, emitting a piercing hiss, yet it could not break free from the invisible restraint.
Just one second.
The energy beam that descended from the sky and stretched for thousands of meters was forcibly kneaded into an energy ball the size of a basketball, flickering with an unstable green light.
It flickered, expanded, and contracted violently half a meter above Chu Hang's palm, like a heart that could explode at any moment.
Chu Hang stared blankly at the "toy," his eyes even showing a hint of boredom. He loosely clenched his fist, then flicked his wrist, as if throwing away trash, and swung it upwards with a sudden motion.
The energy sphere, compressed to its limit, instantly changed direction.
It traveled at more than ten times the speed it had come from, transforming into a green meteor that shot back into the cloudless blue sky, following its original trajectory.
A belated, deafening roar finally came from the distant sky.
A massive green fireball exploded above the clouds, the violent shockwave acting like an eraser, instantly wiping away all the clouds within a radius of several kilometers, leaving behind a huge, hollow blue ring. Sunlight streamed unhindered through that void, as if the sky had been torn open.
The entire process, from the beam falling to being bounced back and then exploding in the air, took no more than five seconds.
The lawn was deathly silent.
Maria slowly opened her eyes and found herself still alive, her daughter still in her arms. She looked up, staring blankly at the huge hole in the sky, then at the figure on the roof with hands in his pockets, seemingly doing nothing, and her mind completely lost the ability to think.
Carol stood there stiffly, the golden light that had just surged onto her body receding little by little. Looking at Chu Hang on the rooftop, she felt for the first time what the "gap" truly meant.
That's not a difference in strength, that's a difference in the level of life.
She could block the attack, but it would require burning energy, colliding with her body, and paying a price.
Chu Hang simply raised his hand.
"Stay inside and don't come out." Chu Hang's voice came from the rooftop, still calm, revealing no emotion.
After he finished speaking, his figure slowly faded and disappeared from the spot.
The next second, he was already thousands of meters in the air.
Here, six Kree soldiers, dressed in dark green combat uniforms and wearing metal helmets, were hovering on hoverboards, watching in shock as the small reconnaissance ship in the distance was blasted into a fireball by an energy cannon fired back by their own people.
They formed a semi-circular formation, surrounding Chu Hang in the middle.
Leading the group was none other than Yon Rogge.
His face was ashen, and his fingers, gripping the energy rifle tightly, were slightly white from the force. He never dreamed that his sure-fire shot would not only fail to lure out the target, but would instead be thrown back like a ball, and in the process, destroy one of his ships.
This is a disgrace, an unprecedented disgrace.
"Who are you?" Yon Rogge's gaze was fixed on the suddenly appearing Chu Hang, his voice as cold as the wind from the planet Hara, "This is a family matter between the Kree Empire and the traitor Firth. Earthling, get out of here!"
Chu Hang, hands in his pockets, strolled leisurely through the air as if taking a walk in his own backyard. He glanced at the well-equipped Kree soldiers, his eyes assessing their value as if he were looking at merchandise on a shelf.
“First, her name is Carol Danvers, an Earthling, not Firth.” Chu Hang spoke calmly, his voice not loud, but clearly reaching everyone’s ears.
He paused, his gaze falling on Yon Rogge, a hint of mocking amusement in his eyes.
"Secondly, didn't your emperor teach you that when visiting a new planet, you should first learn to be polite?" Chu Hang said. "Firing cannons at other people's houses without asking questions is not a good habit. It will bring shame to your empire."
"You're asking for death!" Yon Rogge was completely enraged. As the commander of the Kree elite squad, he had never been so humiliated. Several Kree soldiers behind him immediately raised their energy rifles, the dark green muzzles flashing dangerously, all aimed at Chu Hang.
“Looks like you’ve chosen the path of death.” Yon Roger spat out the words through gritted teeth, refusing further further. “Then die. Fire!”
At his command, five green energy beams shot towards Chu Hang from different angles, forming a deadly net of fire that blocked all his possible escape routes.
However, Chu Hang never intended to flee.
He simply stood there, motionless, without even taking his hands out of his pockets.
The energy beams, powerful enough to melt tanks, caused a scene that terrified all the Kree when they reached a meter around his body.
They were like arrows plunging into a bottomless quagmire, slowing down and dimming, until finally, half a meter away from his body, they vanished completely like extinguished cigarette butts, disappearing without a trace.
There was no explosion, no shield, not even the slightest ripple in the air.
Spatial curvature absorption.
This is a little trick that Chu Hang has figured out over the past few days: to fold the space around him in extremely subtle, high-frequency ways, forming an invisible energy-shredding force field. Any energy body that enters this force field will be instantly decomposed into the most primitive particles by countless spatial folds.
"That's it?" Chu Hang curled his lip, a perfectly timed expression of disappointment on his face. "Is this all the elite squad of the Kree Empire is capable of? It's like tickling an itch."
Yon Rogge and his teammates were completely dumbfounded.
Their attack...was it "eaten"?
How is this possible! That was a pure energy weapon, not a physical bullet! How could it be absorbed out of thin air? This violates all the laws of physics they know!
"Monster!" a Kree soldier finally broke down and cried out in terror.
"You're only realizing it now? It's too late."
Chu Hang's voice seemed to ring out right next to each of their ears.
The next second, his figure disappeared from the spot.
Yon Rogge's pupils constricted to pinpoints! His battle-hardened instincts screamed a warning, and before his brain could even register it, his body reacted. Without a second thought, he activated the energy shield on his wrist and simultaneously retreated rapidly.
But it's too late.
His warning system did not sound, and there was no indication of any enemy approaching in his tactical goggles.
He only felt a weight on his shoulders.
A hand, an ordinary-looking hand that wasn't even wearing a glove, gently rested on his shoulder.
His prized energy shield, capable of withstanding direct hits from a small blaster, burst silently like a soap bubble before that hand.
Yon Rogge's hair stood on end instantly!
He could not feel any power or energy fluctuations. But this light hand resting on his shoulder made him feel as if he were being crushed by an unshakeable mountain, making it impossible to even move a finger.
He watched as Chu Hang's figure materialized before him, a seemingly harmless smile on his face.
