Kane looked at Voldemort with a bewildered expression, still trying to maintain his composure one last time: "Uh, what do you mean by 'my masterpiece'?"
Voldemort looked at Kane, who was still pretending to be stupid at this moment, and couldn't help but nod. This behavior of never giving up the slightest chance of survival until the very last moment could be considered a virtue.
"I admire you, Kane, but you still can't fool me... After all, I got this out of Hagrid. You're probably the only person at Hogwarts who can create these tentacles," Voldemort said quietly.
"I never put on this act in front of Hagrid." Kane shook his head again. To be honest, he was now more inclined to believe that Dumbledore had used various means to let Voldemort know about this in order to speed up the progress of the dungeon.
Voldemort's next words cleared Dumbledore's name: "Well, Hagrid didn't know before, but Ron Weasley did. You know, Mr. Weasley values your friendship highly, and boasting about his friends to others is one of his favorite things to do."
'
"...Okay, that makes sense." Kane's face fell, and he walked helplessly toward Voldemort.
"I thought you'd figure out how to get through this yourself?" he said quietly.
"Bringing you here is one of the solutions I came up with," Voldemort said, patting Kane on the shoulder and urging, "Let's begin, Kane, let me take a look."
"Hmm." Kane gave a casual "hmm," and the tentacles that had been baring their fangs and claws under the trapdoor suddenly became docile, like seaweed floating with the waves on the seabed, eventually weaving into a downward staircase.
"I think we should go on together, shouldn't we, Kane?" Voldemort said, extending a hand towards him.
"You are very cautious."
Kane took Voldemort's hand and walked away on his own. Voldemort only let go of his hand when they were out of the tentacles' attack range. Kane then pulled out a silk handkerchief from somewhere and kept wiping his hands.
"I don't know how many times I've said this, but Professor, I would like you even more if you could pay more attention to personal hygiene." After Kane finished speaking, he used his fan-smelling technique to test the smell of his hands. Finding it to be within his tolerance range, he disgustedly threw the scarf on the ground.
Voldemort gave him a reserved look: "Perhaps someday in the future, anyway, we should move on."
The two disappeared into the darkness of the corridor, and an unknown amount of time passed.
"I really can't believe that Kane's tentacles would obediently weave into steps. Could it be that the person who wants the Philosopher's Stone has kidnapped Kane and is holding him hostage?"
Ron led the way down the trapdoor, slipping uncontrollably with each step he took on the tentacle steps.
"I don't think that's very likely. Who would dare to kidnap Kane? Wouldn't they be afraid of being stuck in the Forbidden Forest and turned into a big tree by noon if they kidnapped him in the morning?" Hermione, who was in the middle, also helped Ron down and said to herself.
"Haha, that's true, but that shouldn't be a big tree, it should be a mandrake, because when we dig that person out, they'll probably be crying their eyes out." Harry, who was at the back, also kept the formation until he saw the silk scarf lying on the ground.
Something's wrong! Things are getting serious.
In another secret room not far in front of them.
"These shapeshifting spells are quite good. It seems Professor McGonagall will like them very much." Voldemort struggled to maintain his armor and resist the killer bees that kept attacking him.
"To be honest, I think these are pretty average. Maybe you could try fire? These little flying insects are terrified of these things," Kane said, raising an eyebrow.
"You think I'd fall for your tricks, Kane? Using a large-scale fire inside Hogwarts Castle would definitely alert Dumbledore, otherwise I wouldn't have needed to bring you here with those tentacles."
Voldemort's tone had lost its initial composure and elegance; he was clearly somewhat taken aback by the killer bees Kane had created. After all, just like flies, although they couldn't cause any effective harm, a swarm of flies buzzing around could really make one feel as uncomfortable as if they had eaten shit.
"Alright, Professor." Kane shrugged and waved his hand casually. The number of killer bees in the entire chamber instantly doubled. Just when Voldemort thought Kane was finally about to attack, the dense swarm of killer bees fell to the ground, and the so-called killer bees still flying in the air were just shadows.
"These are all things I managed to catch from the Forbidden Forest with great difficulty." Kane picked up piece after piece of honey from the ground with a resentful look, thinking that he might be able to have a late-night snack when he got back.
Perhaps honey-glazed ham? Hand-rolled toffee would also work.
"I admire your talent." Voldemort watched the shadows dissipate one after another, quite satisfied, and took a key from the sky, inserted it into the door at the end of the chamber, and walked in alone.
Kane, seeing this, took two steps forward and asked, "Professor, just how weak are you? Although you said that fire is not allowed in Hogwarts, with some effort, you should be able to get through those two challenges using basic spells, right?"
Voldemort turned and glanced at Kane, who was primarily driven by curiosity: "You want to know?"
"certainly."
"Because I wanted to see just how capable you really are, and it seems you're quite capable now." Voldemort said, pushing open the door and walking into the next secret chamber.
"Hmm, Kane, my gut feeling tells me that those three very different pieces on the opposite board are your creation."
Voldemort pointed at the Clockwork Knight, the Bishop, and the Chariot on the opponent's chessboard and said in a low voice.
"Professor, could I take care of these three too? You have no idea how long I spent scavenging for junk at Hogwarts to collect those gears."
Kane complained bitterly about how much he had suffered to handcraft these three big guys, but Voldemort had no idea; he was only thinking about that grooved Philosopher's Stone.
If Voldemort were to take down these three precious items, all those years I spent scavenging would have been a complete waste.
"Hmm. If you hadn't asked that question, I would have been happy to give you this task, but unfortunately you did, so I felt it was necessary for me to demonstrate the power you taught me."
With that, he abruptly raised his wand and shouted in a thick nasal voice, "Avada Kedavra!"
As the emerald green lightning connected all the opposing pieces, along with the ordinary pieces and the three clockwork pieces that Kane had painstakingly crafted, they all became a lifeless mass.
"Professor, why can Hogwarts guard against fire but not against the Killing Curse? Does that make sense?"
