Chapter 42 Don't Make a Premature Promise!
Chapter 42 Don't Make a Premature Promise!
"Oh... is it too late for us to run now?" Ron asked, somewhat numb, as he saw Felch slowly standing up in front of him.
"Of course we're in time! He didn't see our faces!" Harry was the quickest to react this time. He quickly grabbed Kane and the stunned Ron and tried to escape from this troublesome place.
The situation is now very clear: they've been tricked by Malfoy.
"Once I get out of here unscathed today, I'm going to..." Ron was about to make a grand vow when Harry stopped him: "No! Don't say that! Something bad will happen!"
"Alright." The three continued running with their heads down, but the physique of the man behind them was not like that of an old man. On the contrary, he was more like a proper track and field athlete. His legs were unusually agile. In the blink of an eye, he had caught up with them three or four floors, and his breathing was normal. He had the demeanor of a strongman, and he was getting closer and closer.
"Kane, hurry up and help! We're being caught!" Harry whispered to Kane.
"No way, Felch is a dud. What if we accidentally kill him?" Ron was unusually clear-headed at this moment. Getting caught on the night patrol would at most result in a deduction of points, and at worst, it would just be solitary confinement.
If Felch is seriously injured, the three of them will probably have to go home.
Kane clearly didn't think that way. Compared to his own unique shadow magic and summoning magic, hadn't Quirrell recently taught him a spell that dealt basic damage, was widely known, and would never cause serious injury?
Repel spell!
Kane drew his wand, which flashed with blue light. Felch, who was closely following behind them, was suddenly knocked back by a tremendous force and fell to the ground. He rolled a few times and then tumbled into a nearby room with a thud.
Just as the three of them breathed a sigh of relief, a sudden, uneasy growl emanating from the throat of a wild beast sent a shiver down their spines.
"This seems to be the fourth-floor corridor. Could the room that Felch rolled into be the one Dumbledore mentioned at the start of the semester...?" Ron swallowed hard, and the three of them rushed toward the room in unison.
As the terrifying sound drew closer, Kane could already picture the fragments of Felch's skin.
Fortunately, Felch was lucky, or perhaps his body was strong enough, or maybe the three-headed dog that was attacking Felch had just eaten, so it was just toying with Felch. Although it was scary, there were no real wounds.
He did, however, drool all over himself.
In short, as soon as the three of them entered, they saw a large dog with three heads licking Felch. If you ignored Felch's pitiful cries, at first glance it looked a bit like the owner and his pet dogs playing together.
In an instant, Kane summoned a frog with a summoning spell. The frog's tongue lashed out and stuck heavily to the three-headed dog. Then, it pulled the frog back, bringing Felch back to him in a very cute and lively way.
The frog's code is above the Cerberus's code, which is...
The three Kanes who rescued Felch were finally seen clearly by Felch this time. However, when he thought about how the three of them had just saved him from danger, he was still very happy.
As for how water and fire came about...
At least I didn't end up looking like a pile of dog poop the next day...
Felch looked at the three young wizards in front of him, and finally felt he had to show a little humanity: "This is a one-time exception, and there won't be a next time! Understand?"
Kane and the other two nodded quickly.
"Hurry back to your dorms. I'll give you one minute to disappear from my sight," Felch said.
"Thank you, Mr. Felch," Kane said, turning to leave. Harry, wanting to confirm his suspicions, asked, "Mr. Felch, why were you waiting for us there?"
"Have you forgotten who you agreed to a wizard duel with? Anyway, get out of here now, you have forty seconds left." Felch said, his serious and intimidating face returning to its usual stern expression.
Upon hearing this, the three of them immediately quickened their pace and returned to the entrance of the Gryffindor Tower without stopping.
Perhaps because Ron only half-set his goal, Felch let them go, but the goal was ultimately set, and they still couldn't escape punishment.
Professor McGonagall, dressed in cat pajamas, had been waiting for a long time in the Gryffindor common room.
"After spending almost half the night out, I think deducting ten points from each person is a punishment that is neither too lenient nor too severe." Professor McGonagall's lips were pressed into a thin line.
"We have no objections," Kane and the other two said in unison.
"That's for the best. Go back to sleep now. You should be glad you don't have class tomorrow morning."
And so, the young wizards of Gryffindor got up early and greeted each other with "Good morning, Hogwarts! Yesterday's lottery deductions totaled a full thirty points."
Hermione, who also got up early, obviously saw the deduction notice. Perhaps Kane and the others were set up last night?
What truly surprised him was the deduction of points. The thought of Kane meeting Felch, slapping Felch so hard he couldn't find his way around, and then having Felch say thank you wouldn't seem out of place at all. How could he be deducting points for that?
Professor McGonagall is truly selfless.
Hermione sighed as she sat on the sofa.
At this moment, Hermione's roommate Lavender Brown sat down: "By the way, Hermione, didn't you go out for a night stroll last night too? And you came back around the same time as Harry and the other two. Do you know how they got caught?"
Hermione turned a page in the book: "I don't know, we just went back to the castle together, went to the eighth floor, and then we parted ways."
"I think I know a little about this," Finnigansimo suddenly said.
In an instant, most of the people in the lounge who were focused on the point deduction incident turned their attention to Simo.
Seamus scratched his nose unconsciously as so many people stared at him: "Last night I woke up to go to the bathroom, and then I remembered that I left my wizard chess set in the common room. So I went down to get the pieces, and when I got to the common room I saw Professor McGonagall sitting there, like she was waiting for me to come to her door."
Hermione frowned. "So Professor McGonagall didn't just happen to catch Kane and the others, but knew about their nighttime outing and was waiting for them in the common room?"
In an instant, everyone had the same thought: there was a mole in Gryffindor.
They're not afraid of losing points; as Gryffindors, who hasn't broken the rules? But if a fellow Gryffindor tries to backstab someone, the nature of the situation changes.
Last night, I learned that Kaiharo and his two companions had gone on a night out, and that the timing was perfect...
Hermione looked at her classmates, who didn't even consider Malfoy, Kane's enemy, and sighed helplessly. She felt that getting these eleven-year-old Gryffindors to put aside their passion and use logic and their brains to deduce the real culprit was probably harder than teaching a hyena to write with its tail in Africa.
Just as she was secretly criticizing her classmates, she suddenly felt something strange. When she looked up, she saw that most of the eyes in the lounge were focused on her.
Hermione watched this scene with a twitching at the corner of her mouth.
"...You guys...you don't think I betrayed Kane and the other two, do you?"
