Chapter 39 Rewards
Chapter 39 Rewards
However, the matter ended in a great victory for the Duke, because Ventara simply couldn't resist the man's clingy and affectionate "whining".
She felt that Leosley seemed particularly attached to her today, almost to the point of following her everywhere.
She was so annoyed that she had no choice but to tell her about her past. But that was when she was very young, and apart from her kind but longing grandmother, her parents who abandoned her, and the little dog that had always been by her side, she couldn't remember anything else.
But that's enough.
Leosley listened with satisfaction, and then subtly inquired about another time period—the days after Ventara was sent away by the Delascos.
Ventara clicked her tongue lightly, not really wanting to recall that period of time: "These things have absolutely nothing to do with you anymore, you don't need to know."
The attitude of rejection remains unchanged.
Knowing that knowing when to advance and when to retreat would prevent him from becoming annoying, Leosley gave up the idea of continuing to ask questions and quietly stayed by her side, guarding against anyone else getting close.
I need to specifically mention that guy named Bernard.
In reality, Bernard was simply fulfilling his duty as a store manager by serving two complimentary desserts and drinks to his customers who had booked the entire venue for a large sum of money.
All I can say is that the Duke vividly demonstrated what it means to suspect your neighbor of having an axe.
*
Happy times always fly by. Ventara felt like she had just arrived, and now it was time to go back.
She reluctantly put the puppy down and followed Leosley outside, but the frequency with which she turned back every three steps was amusing.
Bernard awkwardly suggested, "Why don't you just buy it?"
He can't always take care of all the puppies, so if a guest likes them and expresses a willingness to take care of them, he won't refuse.
The puppy immediately barked twice, as if agreeing with him, and seemed to be looking forward to going home with her.
Ventara was madly in love, but she also knew that she didn't even have a place to stay in Fontainebleau, and her usual home in Mello Petersburg was completely unsuitable for small animals; there was simply no way she could take good care of a puppy.
Leosley realized this might be an opportunity.
So before Ventara could refuse, he offered, "It's a bit of a hassle to travel from Mello Petersburg to Fontaine, but it's not impossible. If you don't mind, you can leave your puppy with me for boarding, and we can come and visit when you have time."
Of course, that was an understatement. In Leosley's mind, Ventara would never have come to see him in her spare time; she would probably have been urging him to come back every night.
Sigh, wouldn't that be practically cohabitation by then?
He was really looking forward to this scene.
Untara, oblivious to his sinister intentions, only felt he was offering a helping hand in her time of need, her eyes sparkling: "Really?"
"certainly."
Leosley demonstrated his stance directly through his actions, efficiently handling all the necessary procedures for adopting the puppy.
Before long, the two returned to the manor with the puppy and the supplies and dog food that Bernard had kindly provided.
As a passionate dog lover, Ventara was quite adept at taking care of puppies. She nestled on the sofa and continued what Bernard had been interrupted about earlier: trimming his nails.
Seeing that her attention was completely focused on the puppy, Leosley, not to be outdone, leaned over and struck up a conversation: "Have you decided what to name it yet?"
"Of course," Ventara replied, switching to her other paw. "Call me Hutta."
Leosley had only asked casually, and upon hearing this, he nodded nonchalantly: "Good name."
Three seconds later, he suddenly looked up: "Shuta? Why is it called Shuta?"
"Isn't this name nice?" Ventara was quite displeased with his shocked tone.
Leosley, not wanting to upset her, quickly explained, "I'm just curious why you have this name. Does it have any special meaning? Like, is it to commemorate someone?"
He buried his head in the girl's neck, taking advantage of her inability to see his undisguised expression, and gritted his teeth in anger, especially after seeing that Ventara actually nodded.
"Hmm." Ventara confirmed his guess, "But it wasn't a person, it was my first puppy."
Because she felt it was unnecessary, she didn't specifically mention the puppy's name when discussing the past.
Leosley felt like he'd been cheated, his mood fluctuating wildly with Ventara's tendency to only say half-truths to avoid trouble, and he silently endured the whole day's jealousy.
"You really are—" He trailed off, his words of reproach faltering under Ventara's bewildered gaze, "You really know how to pick names."
Although Ventara found it somewhat strange, she was quite pleased with his praise: "Of course, I spent a long time flipping through dictionaries before deciding on this name."
If you ask if it has any special meaning, of course it doesn't. It's just catchy and easy to pronounce, so people can remember it after saying it once.
The time she called out that morning was truly memorable; Leosley felt he would probably remember it for the rest of his life.
Thinking about how he had subtly warned and boasted to Bernard that morning, he couldn't help but cover his face.
No wonder Bernard's expression was only awkward, without a trace of guilt or anger. It turns out the two of them were simply not on the same wavelength; he was the one being jealous for no reason! And jealous of a dog, no less!
Leosley felt increasingly embarrassed as he thought about it.
Just then, Hughta finished trimming his nails, and Ventara was finally able to spare a glance for him. However, when she turned her head, she didn't see Leosley's handsome face, but rather a hand covering his face and a man's red, bleeding earlobes.
It has to be said that it's rather exciting to see someone who's always been shameless suddenly blush.
Wentara became interested, put Hutta on the ground, and crawled over to pry at him, wanting to see if the face behind his hands was also red.
While rummaging through the folds, she also fanned the flames: "Oh, what's gotten into Your Grace, Duke? Is it something you can't say?"
Leosley had been jealous for so long because of her, and now that she was being egged on, he wasn't going to hold back anymore and was ready to teach her a lesson.
The man stood up and pushed the guy who had been kneeling in front of him to make it easier to tease him down onto the sofa.
At such close range, with Ventara completely unprepared, he easily succeeded.
To Leosley's surprise, even in this position, Ventara showed no sign of resistance. Instead, she happily admired the blush on his face that was finally showing.
If his hands hadn't been held down, Ventara would definitely have reached out and touched his face to feel the heat herself.
Leosley thought with certainty.
In fact, he was right; Ventara really wanted to touch his face, but she wasn't in a hurry. Instead, she brought up something else: "Leo, you should know that I'm very good at taming wild beasts."
Leosley didn't understand why she would bring this up at this time, but he nodded nonetheless.
Worried that she would be uncomfortable if she stayed in this position for too long, he subconsciously moved, loosened his hands that were holding her down, and instead placed them on either side of him so that Ventara could lie on the sofa in a comfortable position.
Even though her hands were free, Ventara did not resist.
As she herself said, she was quite skilled at taming wild animals, especially the wolf named "Leosley" in front of her.
Ventara was very happy with her date today, and a good owner would reward her "good dog" after such a satisfying experience.
So she reached out and hooked her arm around the man's neck, offering her lips to him.
Leosley's eyes narrowed in shock as he stared at her blankly.
Untara returned the gaze defiantly, her turquoise eyes full of teasing, her tongue darting around, teasing the man's sensitive palate.
However, she seems to have gone too far.
The initiative was eventually taken away. Ventara was kissed so hard she could hardly breathe, and her eyes were already misty with tears welling up in them.
The man holding her down seemed quite interested in the tear, and finally released her mouth to kiss her eyes instead.
Ventara breathed a brief sigh of relief.
But the kiss didn't seem to intend to stop there; after catching that tear, it unceremoniously slid down her cheek.
Things were getting a little out of control than she had initially thought, but Ventara didn't intend to stop it. She just took a breath and whispered a reminder, "Don't go too far. Tomorrow... well, there's important business tomorrow..."
At this moment, she remembered more clearly than Leosley that she was going to take Meloshen and the others to visit Petersburg the next day.
Leosley gave a perfunctory reply; whether he actually took it to heart is another matter.
*
Melusin have always been a prominent presence in Fontainebleau. Although they have lived in this place for hundreds of years, their appearance, which is different from that of humans, still attracts a lot of attention, especially now that a dozen or so Melusin have come out together.
Seulgi took it upon herself to guide her companions, leading them to rest on the sidelines while waiting for backup.
However, she found it strange that the staff in Mello Petersburg were late this time.
Fortunately, the wait wasn't long, and she soon saw a familiar figure.
"The Duke!" she called out, gesturing for himself and his companions to be there.
Leosley quickly walked over: "Sorry we're late."
us?
Seulgi was puzzled.
It wasn't until she got closer that she realized what "we" meant.
There was another person following behind Leosley, but because he was petite, he was completely hidden from her view, so she didn't see him at first glance, and—
Seulgi's nose twitched.
As a member of the Shadow Chasing Court who was on vacation, her sense of smell was naturally very sensitive, and she could clearly smell other people's scents. However, for some reason, she couldn't quite distinguish between the two people just by their scents, as they smelled almost exactly the same.
Hmm, it seems they had a wonderful night together last night.
The experienced Melissa chuckled to herself and decided not to hold their lateness against them.
