"That's understandable."
Saeko nodded.
"But Muzan Kibutsuji also has his own desires. Although demons are powerful and have long lifespans, they have a fatal weakness—sunlight."
"Muzan Kibutsuji has lived for over a thousand years. What he desires most is to break free from the shackles of sunlight and become a truly perfect being."
“Umbrella possesses advanced biotechnology. Perhaps Muzan Kibutsuji believes that their scientific power can help him overcome his weakness to sunlight.”
Zhou Ye gasped.
Umbrella and Muzan Kibutsuji...are they teaming up?
One is for the sake of immortality in a scientific sense.
One reason is to break free from the constraints of natural laws.
These two are colluding...
This is practically hellish difficulty in the beginner village!
"you mean…"
Jill's voice trembled slightly.
"Umbrella is not only researching viruses, but also cooperating with these...man-eating monsters?"
Having been born in a capitalist country, Jill knows all too well just how massive the chaebols and giant corporations are in such a nation. Already behemoths themselves, collaborating with another superpowered monster—what kind of monster would they create? Jill couldn't even imagine.
"Both sides get what they need."
Saeko said calmly.
"Umbrella wanted Muzan Kibutsuji's 'immortality' factor, or rather, the immortality of his demon-transformed cells. Muzan Kibutsuji, on the other hand, hoped to use Umbrella's science and technology to find a way to overcome sunlight."
"So, this mansion contains both Umbrella's biological weapons and demons sent by Muzan Kibutsuji?"
"Probably."
Saeko confirmed Zhou Ye's guess.
“There might even be something… more terrifying, a fusion of virus and demon blood.”
The scene fell into dead silence.
Everyone is processing this despairing information.
Zombies, bio-weapons, plant demons, and even a possible hybrid of demons and viruses…
And the two behemoths behind the scenes—Umbrella and the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji.
This is no longer a simple biological crisis.
This is a disaster that transcends both the scientific and the mystical realms.
Nami's face turned pale, and she couldn't help but complain:
"What the hell... Can this lousy place ever be any better? I haven't made much money, and I'm about to lose my life!"
Before entering the instance, I thought I was there to get free items, but I realized I was wrong.
Zhou Ye rubbed his temples, feeling a splitting headache.
The system's task prompts remain clear.
The rewards are generous, but the risks also increase exponentially.
The exhaustion of the fifth moon...
Twelve Ghost Months...
Ghost Dance Tsuji Muzan…
Umbrella...
He glanced at Gil, who was slumped on the ground, then at Nami, whose face was pale, and finally his gaze settled on Saeko Busujima, who remained calm and composed.
It seems that the threats their hastily assembled team will face in the future are far more severe than they imagined.
Saeko Busujima walked to the charred pit in the center of the restaurant, squatted down, and used her scabbard to poke at the carbonized remains.
"Let's go."
She stood up and said:
"We cannot stay here any longer. We need to find other survivors as soon as possible and gather more intelligence and supplies, especially information about this research institute."
at this time--
[Sizzle... sizzle...]
A sudden electrical crackling broke the brief silence.
The voice came from the walkie-talkie on Jill's waist.
She paused for a moment, then quickly took the walkie-talkie.
A slightly distorted but steady and mature male voice came from it:
"Jill, where are you now?"
Upon hearing that voice, Zhou Ye's heart skipped a beat.
Barry Burton.
The kind-hearted guy from STARS who was threatened by Wesker with his family and ultimately chose to betray him.
The Resident Evil 1 storyline has begun.
Almost the instant Jill was about to answer, Zhou Ye moved.
He didn't speak, but simply raised his hand and made a grasping motion in the air in Jill's direction.
Blue data light flickered at his fingertips as the power of the [Herrscher of Reason Fragment] was activated.
A line of clear white text appeared out of thin air in front of Jill, visible only to her:
Don't tell him there are strangers around.
The text only lasted for a second before disintegrating and disappearing.
Jill's pupils contracted slightly, and her heart skipped a beat.
What kind of ability is this...?
She quickly suppressed her shock and answered into the walkie-talkie in as calm a tone as possible:
“I…I’m still inside the mansion, Barry.”
She paused, organizing her thoughts.
"It's teeming with zombies in here, it's very dangerous. What about you? How's the situation on your end?"
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the walkie-talkie, then Barry's voice came through again, with a hint of barely perceptible urgency:
"Things aren't going well for me either; zombies appeared there too, but I've taken them all out. Stay there and don't move; I'm coming to find you..."
[Shh... Sizzle...]
Before he could finish speaking, the communication was interrupted by an even louder static interference.
"Barry? Barry? Can you hear me?"
Jill shouted into the walkie-talkie a few times, but only received a hissing sound in response.
She pressed the call button several times, but there was no response.
"Damn it!" Jill cursed under her breath, forcefully turning off the intercom.
"Damn the purchasing department! They even buy such inferior goods for communication equipment that could save lives in a critical moment!"
After venting her anger, she looked up and her gaze fell on Zhou Ye and Nami.
The text that appeared out of nowhere, along with the RPG, landmine, and flamethrower from before, made her even more suspicious of the two people's identities.
These two guys who claim to be here to "make some extra money" are definitely not simple.
The information on their work badges is probably just a facade.
Jill's expression turned serious.
She walked up to Zhou Ye, maintaining a safe distance.
“Mr. Zhou, and this…Ms. Tohsaka?” She carefully chose her words.
"I think we should be more honest with each other now?"
“In a godforsaken place like this, there’s no benefit in distrusting each other.”
"Only through information sharing can we have a greater chance of leaving alive."
Nami scoffed upon hearing this.
She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at Jill.
"Candid?"
“Miss Jill, what you said is very interesting.”
"You were talking to your teammates just now, and someone reminded you not to expose us."
"What, now that it's our turn, we're expected to be honest?"
Nami's tone was clearly sarcastic.
"Are we that close to you? Why should we open our hearts to you?"
"Besides, haven't you yourself been hiding things from us?"
Gil's face turned red and white as Nami retorted.
She did indeed hide the existence of Zhou Ye and the others from Barry, but that's different from the current situation.
"I……"
"Nami," Zhou Ye said, interrupting Nami who was about to continue attacking.
Nami pursed her lips and didn't say anything more, but the distrust in her eyes didn't diminish at all.
