Chapter 337: A Baby At The Wrong Time.
Chapter 337: A Baby At The Wrong Time.
The room stayed quiet for the next thirty minutes.
Angela lay curled up on the bed while different thoughts filled her head. If the result turned out positive, everything would become a complete mess.
She was not ready for this.
Not now.
Not when things were already complicated between her and her mates.
A soft knock suddenly came from the door.
Stales quickly went to open it.
Alex stepped inside.
Angela blinked the moment she saw him properly.
He looked different from the last time she had seen him. It had only been two months, yet something about him had changed completely. His hair was neatly arranged and his black shirt stretched tightly against his broad chest. He looked bigger than before, stronger too.
For a few seconds, Angela found herself staring at him.
How did he become more attractive in just two months?
"Hey, everyone," Alex greeted as he walked into the room with both hands inside his pockets.
"Hello, Alex," Angela replied softly.
The sudden shyness she felt caught her off guard. Heat rushed to her cheeks immediately and she looked down at the floor, annoyed with herself.
What was wrong with her?
This was Alex.
Her friend.
The same person who came to help her.
"Did you bring it?" Stales asked before the silence could become awkward.
"Yes." Alex nodded and brought out two test strips from his pocket before handing them over to Angela. "I managed to get two. Is this okay?"
"Thank you, Alex," Angela said quietly as she stood up from the bed.
She started walking toward the bathroom, but suddenly stopped halfway.
When she turned around, she caught Alex staring at her.
Her breath almost hitched.
Oh no.
Had he been staring at her the whole time?
And why did his eyes suddenly look so intense?
Angela quickly looked away from him and cursed herself inside her head.
What was she even thinking about right now?
There was a bigger problem waiting for her inside that bathroom.
"Is there a problem?" Alex asked calmly, pretending like she had not caught him staring.
Angela swallowed hard and forced herself to act normal.
"No. Nothing is wrong."
"You looked worried," he said softly. "Are you okay?"
"Yes," she answered quickly. "I am fine."
"If you are not feeling well, then tell us," Stales suddenly interrupted with a grin. "We have to protect our future niece or nephew."
Angela groaned loudly.
"Stales," Alex warned as he turned to look at him. "Can you be serious for once?"
"What?" Stales raised both hands innocently. "I am just trying to lighten the mood."
"You know he is crazy, right?" Angela pointed at Stales. "He has been saying nonsense since morning."
Alex chuckled softly. "I am not surprised. That is what he does best."
"Really?" Stales frowned dramatically. "Why am I suddenly the bad person here? Angela was the one staring at Alex first."
Angela’s eyes widened.
"What?"
"Maybe she was not even looking at me," Alex added, though the small smile on his face made things worse.
Stales slowly nodded with suspicion. "Hmmm."
Angela immediately cleared her throat before the teasing could continue.
"I hope you did not tell Kaito about this, Alex?" she asked quickly, changing the topic.
"No, you do not have to worry about that. He would not even talk to me about you no matter how much I tried to bring you up."
Angela nodded slowly, pain twisting inside her chest. It was obvious now that Kaito had already cut her off from his heart. If there was a way for him to reject her as his mate completely, he would gladly do it.
"I was so foolish to believe he loved me," Angela whispered as tears filled her eyes. She tried to hold them back, but she could not. "I was so stupid, guys."
"No, you were not. Kaito loves you. I know he does," Alex said quickly, already regretting what he had said earlier.
Angela looked up at him with hurt written all over her face. "Is this what you people call love? He caused all this pain and he does not even care. He is out there living his life while I am here trying to survive."
"I think Angela is right," Stales finally spoke. "Kaito is not even trying."
"Thank God someone else can see it," Angela muttered, feeling relieved that at least one person understood her.
"I do not know what is wrong with him, but I hope he comes back to his senses soon," Stales added quietly.
Alex stayed silent. He only lowered his gaze.
"I do not care if he gets better," Angela snapped. "I am done with him, and I do not want to hear his name around me again."
"What if he is the father of your..."
"Fuck you, Stales."
"Sorry."
"Just let her be," Alex said softly.
Angela walked into the bathroom, her chest feeling tight and heavy. She washed her hands slowly, trying to calm herself down. Then she dried them and pulled off her underwear.
Her fingers shook as she tore open the pregnancy test pack. A few seconds later, she was done. She put her underwear back on and placed the test beside the sink.
The wait felt like torture.
Her heart beat wildly inside her chest as fear slowly swallowed her whole. She kept trying not to think about it, but it was impossible.
"Are you okay in there?" Stales called from outside.
"Yes," Angela forced out, though she was terrified to even look at the result.
She rubbed her neck nervously before turning toward the sink.
The moment her eyes landed on the test, her whole body froze.
Two lines.
Positive.
"No..." she whispered shakily.
Her trembling hands reached for the test kit. She stared at it again and again, hoping her eyes were lying to her.
"This means positive, right?" she asked in a broken voice even though nobody was there to answer her.
The tears she had been holding back finally spilled down her cheeks.
Why now?
Everything in her life was already falling apart, and now this?
A baby?
Angela covered her mouth as a painful sob escaped her throat.
"What am I supposed to do now?" she cried softly.
Nothing was okay anymore.
Absolutely nothing.
